I have been working at W.L. Gore full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work/life balance Benefits package Nice, friendly & helpful colleagues Innovative products

    Cons

Sadly, the ‘cons’ increasing and beginning to overshadow the pros: Culture is not working and is slowing down innovation and growth with exception of a couple of sub divisions Very US centric with a patronising leadership attitude to non US associates Leadership are not accountable for their actions and when things don’t work out they don’t take responsibility and blame everything and everyone else for their poor decision making Used to feel like a job for life but now it’s just a case of ticking off the pensionable years hoping to get as many under the belt until you become surplus to requirements I could go on ....

I have been working at W.L. Gore full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Without question the best thing is the employees you work with - I have worked with so many genuinely talented, trustworthy and helpful people during my many years here.

    Cons

A real lack of progression opportunity due to the way the company is structured. Firstly, people tend to be here a long time (a good sign) but that has the effect that new positions for advancement don't often come up. When positions do come up it seems that they are filled completely based on what location you're at (US or Germany) and/or who you know and not what experience and achievements you have ... which is very demotivational to the teams who feel like they are pushed until burnout with no end reward. "Leaders" are seriously out of touch with what is going on at the coal face but it appears as long as they are ok then it doesn't matter. Company is good at marketing itself but is pretty out of touch in development of new stuff - takes waaaay too long.

I worked at W.L. Gore full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very little work-place pressure. Processes are open and fair, good HR.

    Cons

This is a place where a lot of people really don't do much work. It is easy to survive and thrive by repeating the endless corporate mantras that are created.

I worked at W.L. Gore full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good working conditions with plenty of holidays Good pay for work load health care and company shares.

    Cons

Where to start!!! Very poor leadership slow to respond to anything and if you complained you got the big bulging eyes 👀. Just closed Livingston manufacturing moving all production equipment to Taiwan, this is to cut cost and use cheap Labour putting lots of people out of jobs. More bad news forcast and slow to respond to other companies doing the same products better and cheaper. Gore have traded on their name for far to long and are now reaping the cost of mis-managment and slow action.

I have been working at W.L. Gore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you are working for the right division you should enjoy the special culture that has no hierarchy. You are expected to take on and keep working commitments. No managers on your back. Most associates are nice, welcoming and intelligent people.

    Cons

If you are in the wrong division/department you might find a patronising culture with obvious micromanagement. Career prospects are few in the UK.

    Pros

    Degree of autonomy and freedom

    Cons

Inconsistency, decisions altered without consultation or communication, arrogance with customers. Appallingly bad performance appraisal, more of a popularity contest.

I worked at W.L. Gore for more than 10 years

    Pros

I did learn a lot at Gore about inclusive decision making, different ways of looking at problems and solutions, the benefits of a leadership based culture and lots of good tools for problem solving

    Cons

One colleague described it a s a billion dollar garage sale. That about sums up the lack of structure and organisation and unprofessional manner in which much business is done. Customers perceived Gore as incredibly arrogant and when you are trying to work with a customer that is a big hurdle to overcome. All the talk about culture is a load of rubbish which in my view is ther to make you believe that despite the poor salaries thT you are part of something unique. That is not the case. Several other reviews have pointed to the annual popularity lists as a so called review process, which are anonymous and very unfair. Performance was never reviewed seriously as agreements about yearly goals were simply ignored and vague comments about performance were the order of the day with no specifics about how to improve etc. No open system for career advancement, decisions about selecting the chosen few are closed door affairs and not open for discussion. decision making in the business was also chaotic and subject to almost random change by the privileged few which made consistency very hard to achieve.
