I have been working at WDS full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

We have a great bunch of people and there are opportunities to progress. We have seen call centre staff promoted into Knowledge Teams, Development, IT, HR and Finance. Despite global hard times financially we have grown, we have continued to win new business and new customers. With this knowledge it has provided job security at times when there have been no jobs in the market place.

    Cons

Because of the pace our customers want to move at we are often expected to ramp up very quickly, too quickly in my opinion. If we were allowed the time to bring new contracts on at a reasonable timeframe we could build a better environment for our staff. The very nature of our business as an outsourcer if the customer chooses to reduce a channel of support we have to reduce head count. I am aware of 3 major reductions to contracts in my tenure - and actually most of the staff have successfully transferred to other contracts.

I have been working at WDS full-time

    Pros

WDS has a good office environment, and is a great place to come and learn how to write software in a truly agile environment. Developers are encouraged to take charge of their own destiny and get to work on exciting projects. Developers have good autonomy and get to choose technologies.

    Cons

Benefits are average, and career progression is a bit vague, and difficult if you aren't prepared to line manage. There are no long term benefits like stock options, and every pay review seems to be a case of arguing your case rather than being rewarded. The start-up vibe has been eroded by some bureaucracy from Xerox, and we aren't as enlightened as we like to tell everyone we are. The communication from senior management is very poor.

I have been working at WDS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It is a pleasant work environment and people do communicate very well. Opportunities are given to develop more skills.

    Cons

Managers help with improving your skills but the opportunities to fulfill a more satisfying role is limited. A lack of real innovation framework that involves people with knowledge and skills to demonstrate other values and benefits to the business. Despite the fact we have the WDSWay the realization or implementation is not there yet, neither does it get properly monitored or audited.

I have been working at WDS full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People you work with. Over time. Training for 6 weeks in a class room (Paid).

    Cons

"Googley" - which translates into: you are likely going to be an agency staff member, employed by an outsourced company, which is/ is not outsourced on behalf of google via WDS and then XEROX. As with a lot of negative customer cases, when if comes to taking responsibility and making decisions you are passed around. No one takes responsibility. In my case I walked into work one day to be told by a Team leader on the floor that day I should have been contacted by my agency to be told that my contract had been terminated. Best bit, they couldn't explain why because they were not part of the investigation which had been handled by Google. I would need to speak with my Agency, who thus redirected to them because they had not dealt with the investigation. No warning, no formalities, not even a meeting with myself taking place to discuss this situation, no explanation why, just simply there was an investigation by Google had taken place and my contract had been terminated. "Googley" Untrustworthy just as with the tax evasion etc exploiting vulnerable workers using not only firstly one outsourced company, but outsourcing to a parent company who outsources further to WDS who then primarily uses agency workers.
