I have been working at WE Communications full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I recently started working here at headquarters in Seattle and already love it. Benefits are great, work-life balance is valued, and the people here are highly motivated. Pay is decent as well, compared to other mid to large PR agencies. Employees exhibit a great deal of pride in the service they provide to their clients. Work is work, but WE has built a company culture that makes work more enjoyable and immersive.

    Cons

The agency is understandably tech-dominant in the Seattle office; most of the employees at headquarters provide support on enterprise tech company accounts, limiting some options in trying out different sectors. HOWEVER, working on non-tech accounts is entirely possible, just requires some forethought and research to find out what you want to work on.

    Advice to Management

    None!

I worked at WE Communications full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great and casual culture, top tier clients, large agency feeling disguised in a small agency body, CEO is exactly what she should be (open, progressive, accessible).

    Cons

For a communications agency, it was somehow impossible to know where you stood within the company, due to poor communication. The company preaches an "over communicate via email" mantra, but when it comes to important updates or decisions, this is not true, in person.

I worked at WE Communications for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of work to do, high profile clients, top tier media relations, strong female empowerment culture

    Cons

Overtly bureaucratic, weak middle management, too dependant upon Microsoft for earning correlating to high turnover for entry employees in times of restructuring or poor performance, poor work life balance due to an overburdened team

I have been working at WE Communications full-time

    Pros

Waggener Edstrom (WE) is a fast-paced, collaborative environment. While the client list is predominately founded in the tech industry, namely Microsoft, there are opportunities to pursue other broader consumer interests. WE employees are super sharp, knowledgeable, hard working, but also fun and emphasize work-life balance. The office takes time to recognize Seattle's Super Bowl run, holidays, volunteering opportunities...

    Cons

The technology industry is a large part of client work, so keep that in mind when applying. However, there are some more consumer focused clients. In general, teams are somewhat independent of one another, so there isn't always a lot of crossover on account work.

    Advice to Management

Once you are on a team, it's sometimes a bit involved to move laterally in the company. I'd advise management to emphasize that employees start planning and working with managers early if a team change is of interest.

I have been working at WE Communications

    Pros

Well the vacation package is amazing. 4 weeks of PTO is nuts and awesome--I only wish I was paid enough that I could afford 4 weeks of vacation a year. :P But truthfully, if they like you and want to keep you, my feeling is that WE will make all sorts of adjustments and deals to do that. Additionally, and I think this benefit is more important/helpful for junior account staff, the learning and development program is amazing....

    Cons

Depending on the account and your manager, there is a very real chance you will be worked to death/quitting. The time off policies are nice but if your manager is the sort of person who wants you online at 8pm, you need be online at 8pm. It's unfair and unfortunately I've had both types of managers: good ones and ones who worked me to death. It's a competitive work environment, which is good sometimes, but also leads...

    Advice to Management

Well, first of all, you need to stop this BS regressive benefit system. There is this de-facto acknowledgement that you don't get/deserve a quality of life or work life balance until you've made it to the SAE level or higher. A quality of life--a balanced life--should be something you guarantee to your employees right off the bat because you care about them. Also move to Seattle. Creative ideas/companies/startups/the...

I have been working at WE Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

World class clients, leadership that is really invested in your career development, huge resources to do fun extracurriculars like international office exchanges, team offsites at great restaurants, etc

    Cons

    Can be boring at times

    Advice to Management

The leadership centralizes business planning at senior levels, rather than making business development and business acumen apart of everyone's responsibilities--makes it so junior stafffers aren't as business savvy as they could be.

I have been working at WE Communications full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Waggener is my third agency, including interning, and in my opinion, the best thing about us is we live and breathe treating employees like humans with lives outside of work. As one of many examples, strong, seasoned employees can work remotely for years if their spouses go to graduate schools in places we don't have an office. I generally enjoy myself while at work, and our office culture combines professionalism with...

    Cons

The best and worst thing about us is the business model is built around U.S. Microsoft. If you read Microsoft Glassdoor reviews, you'll get the idea. Unlike Edelman or Weber Shandwick, our culture prioritizes answering clients' short-term demands above keeping and growing agency revenue, staying on top of the direction our industry is headed, and promoting good employees to keep them from leaving. To their credit, our...

    Advice to Management

Decide whether you want to grow the agency or please Microsoft in the short term, if you haven't already. You can't have both because of where Microsoft's business and the media relations industry are headed, and this contradiction demoralizes employees. If you want to grow the agency, overhaul the way we hire and promote to reflect that our industry is full of ambitious, millennial employees who get recruiter emails...

I have been working at WE Communications

    Pros

Dedicated to world changing ideas, great salary and friendly workplace, lots of vacation days, at least one flex day per week to work from home

    Cons

You feel bad if you work just 9 hours a day, yet you're told not to bill too much time to one client, so it's confusing/frustrating

    Advice to Management

Just hire more people so they can work 8 hours a day.
