I worked at WakeMed Health and Hospitals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great hospital, nursing staff very nice and seem to care about their patients. Good life-work balance. Benefits about average for the industry.

    Cons

    Support staff over-worked and underpaid.

    Advice to Management

Your administrative and support staff are just as important as your nurses and doctors. Treat them with respect and pay them more.

I have been working at WakeMed Health and Hospitals full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great medical care, nursing staff and good physicians

    Cons

Treat their staff poorly, fail to recognize that staff has families and lives outside of work. Coworker called out because daughter was sick and she got counseled by manager suggesting that coworker find someone else to care for child. They entrap employees into taking the bait and then discipline them with threats of termination, recently sent out a phishing email telling employees they were getting a holiday gift and when you clicked on link it recorded your user name so management could track you down. If manager hears you want to transfer departments they write you up and give you a disciplinary level so you can’t transfer jobs, the promise you a set schedule and then 8 months down the road they tell you they are changing your work hours to a horrible shift( due to business needs). Recently started a witch hunt of all employees by doing random drug testing instead of dealing with those individuals ( managers don’t have skill to detect an impaired employee so they institute hospital wide drug testing)

    Advice to Management

Start treating your nurses with caring and compassion the same way you want us to care for our patients. Try to be a little understanding about an employee situation and reflect how you would like to be treated. I give 120% when I am working but I slip up once you are all over me!
