I worked at WakeMed Health and Hospitals full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security, heart program, and community outreach programs.

    Cons

Ineffectual and inexperienced managers who get promoted because they have advanced degrees and NO actual real-world experience.
If you leave and want to return, they will not even give you an interview because they can replace you with 1-2 full-time new nurses for what you were making.
Ageism is alive and well here.

    Advice to Management

Promote and reward your seasoned clinicians. More letters behind your name do NOT warrant respect; you have to earn it. They need to actually lead, support, and help their team which means they actually have to be in their unit(s) instead of at conferences, workshops, or management type meetings.
