Pros

Great people who are capable, highly skilled, and motivated to succeed. It is a wonderful thing to genuinely enjoy working with your co-workers and department/Unit heads. Pay for Performance is a Pro for my salary, but a Con to the company as a whole (see Cons and Advice). Training lives in both Pro and Con. Management invests time in training as they care deeply about development. Training has greatly improved as it has implemented many tools to be more engaging. Most of the “approved training subjects” have a lot to offer. Good time off Some nice benefits include company contributions to Health Savings and a percentage of 401k matching. The lowest tier insurance around, but they do provide insurance.

Cons

Pay for Performance is a fast track to lowering the morale of over half any company. Success is no longer shared by a teams, but instead hoarded by a few. Pay for Performance either requires too much time/money or is grossly inaccurate. The middle ground compromise of this results in both bad outcomes. Pay for Performance is alluring in theory, but in reality its practice has hampered teamwork, fostered distrust, and created a false feedback loop of “Yes Men” that is dangerous to the company. Rather than driving away “low performers,” the mass effect of this pay scale has resulted in driving out high performers who felt undervalued. Rapidly increased turnover has proved costly and demoralizing. Several years ago I would have felt no qualms about listing my name and position with my feedback, but there has been far too much retaliation of late. Perhaps the previous lawsuit left many in an adversarial mindset? Limited Training scope has supplanted job-specific learning. Training has been improving, but the department possess no real qualifications, degrees, or relevant experience. Nepotism is rampant with the majority of trainers being direct children of upper level executives. Strong family relations and friendships (prior to hiring) fast track individuals for promotions, management, and higher salaries. Fortunately, some family members and friends have proved invaluable in key roles, but its worth noting that many (including myself) have worked twice as hard to achieve the same role and often pick up slack. The time consuming hiring process limits our options to hire whomever stuck around; Meanwhile, higher talent applicants are already several months into their jobs at other companies.

Pros

Some people at the company are really friendly and great to work with. The people are very talented and work hard. Very good time off, HSA and 401k are nice.

Cons

CEO is an engineer and DID NOT graduate in business. I personally think his lack of schooling and skills in business is hurting the company. I think he lacks the discipline to separate people from technical ideas and he tries to solve problems using technical skills and doesn't have enough people skills.... empathy, patience, respect for other opinions, to be a CEO and manager of people. CEO has implemented his ideas and if you check some of the other new reviews you will see the pain and anxiety he has caused people at the company. I personally think the CEO will run the company into the ground before he admits that he is making mistakes. I think the people around him, friends and other managers are afraid of him and have given up on trying to help him by pointing out his mistakes. A strong leader listens and learns from his peers and makes the correct changes needed, CEO at Wavetronix will not do that because of pride.

Pros

Not micro managed. You enjoy the people you work with. Most employees really enjoy the work they do. For the most part it is a laid back environment. They do have a nice Christmas dinner as well as a company lunch a month. You get two movie tickets and a gift card for your birthday. If you're into self-improvement, you take 60 hours a year of required company training. Depending on your department, you may have an additional 30-60 hours of skills training. So if you liked school, you'll really like the training. PTO is generous and better than many places. You can accrue it and roll it over. It starts immediately which many employees love. The 401(k) is very generous and starts upon employment if you desire. They also cover 80% of the health insurance and help fund a good portion of your HSA every year. If you're into it, they have quarterly fitness challenges that many employees enjoy. A key feature that many employees really love is the flex time. As long as your manager and team knows, no one cares if you have to cut out for an hour or two for an appointment or an errand. If it matters to you, most desk spaces are in large cubicles and you can decorate it anyway you want. Something else that is encouraged although not always voiced is to solve solutions on your own. So if you see a problem, especially one across departments, you're encouraged to work with key people to solve it. Some of the best solutions have come when employees saw a need and they just fixed it without running it by management, as long as it is in line with the company's goals and directions. One of the best benefits that everyone loves is that we shut down from Christmas to New Years. We get Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Black Friday off, and Christmas - New Years.

Cons

Company perks keep being taken away. While management does what they believe is beneficial to the employees, morale has been down for the last two years and continues to go down. A lot of it is due to three things: (1) you can't voice your opinion without getting black listed, (2) the mandatory company training is a bit much on top of all your other training and meetings, and (3) the pay system is wrong. In the past it was preached for several years to think like an owner and then we would all share in the profit at the end of the year. Now you get evaluations and might receive 1/5 of what you originally received and that is disbursed into four payments throughout the year, if you score well on your evaluation. While management says we are competitive, most employees don't buy it. Some would say we're turning into a cult because of the nepotism (which is growing) and the way the "culture" is protected. If you want a place to work with great people and settle in and get comfortable, this is a great place to do it. However, you won't get paid much year to year so it comes with a cost. As long as you understand this and check with many current employees and ask a lot of good questions during your interview process, you'll know what you're getting and you can make the decision if it is right for you and your family.
