Pros
There is a reason why the company has low staff turnover: the work life balance is great, the pay is reasonable and the industry is fun.
Cons
Very low career progression opportunities, given that the structure is rather flat. Ambition and performance is not rewarded. The company has just woken up to diversity and inclusion as a big issue and is now playing catch up. Things may get better in the future but until now the key to success was to be a British or Irish white male.

Pros
Family ownership gives the ability to take long term decisions for the benefit of the company, the employees, local communities and the shareholders. Undoubtedly the shareholders benefit significantly from the financial performance of the company, but employees are also protected from short term views.
Cons
Organisation structure is quite flat making some areas difficult for career progression. Depends on the role and the site, but worth checking what a future career path might look like.
