    Wiltshire Council Response

Hi – thanks for taking the time to complete a review and apologies for our late response. It’s great to hear that you’re having such a positive, supportive experience at the start of your social work career – that’s really important for us to hear. Thank you too for your suggestion about a pay increase on completion of your ASYE. You may be interested to know that there are different levels of social worker roles once you have completed your ASYE and gained some experience and therefore there are many career progression opportunities available to you at Wiltshire Council in this field of work. The car parking priority spaces in both Sadlers Mead and Monkton Park car parks in Chippenham are signed. However, should any staff member be in any doubt where they can and cannot park, the Parking Services Team are always available to seek advice from.

    Pros

During the period employed I received several secondments, the training was very good quality, this enabled promotions and job satisfaction through promotional positions.

    Cons

Through the most recent period of 'austerity' far too much money was wasted on consultants; not enough investment in permanent staff who could have fulfilled the brief to promote change. Senior management (Director CEO level) was weak and did not lead by example as one would hope. When staff showed signs of stress due to poor leadership a blame culture emerged demonstrating a lack of respect towards committed and hard working staff members.

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you found the opportunities for career progression were good during your time at the council. Your review does not say when you left - however as you are probably aware there was a major change in corporate leadership in 2010 which, together with the roll out of the behaviours framework, hopefully addressed some of the concerns you have raised.
