I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time

    Pros

The breadth and range of experience to be gained is better than most other publishing companies. The rating of 2 stars is generous and has been given purely for the professional experience. The name and brand of the publisher could be helpful for your CV.

    Cons

Everything else is a con. The line management micromanage you, treat you like slaves, bully you and the senior management and HR are all complicit in this - basically they don't care. At best, the work is demanding. Morale is low, there are promises of progression in the future which never materialise. However more senior management continue to progress professionally and in job titles. The work culture is largely...

    Advice to Management

Change your ways - stop being treating people as disposable objects. Treat them with respect - it's not rocket science.

I have been working at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good culture at company level, executives are open and approachable and focus on employee engagement. Employees respect and appreciate each other. Very social.

    Cons

Not all departments are consistent. Senior management in some departments lack focus for people and development opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Line managers often need to 'find time' for people development, this should be their main focus.

    Pros

Good benefits - pension, health insurance etc

    Cons

Below average salary, staff not valued highly. Lots of promotions among senior management, but none for the middle management or junior staff.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff what they are worth.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Personally, the company repeatedly gave me opportunities to learn more skills and develop new talents. I wasn't always interested in climbing the corporate ladder but I was interested in not getting in a rut. WK always seemed to give me a new challenge which kept me there for a very long time. In that way, they are very good at holding on to their employees.

    Cons

They answer to shareholders, that is not always the greatest way of defining your strategy. The infrastructure is large and cumbersome, very corporate, so decisions can take aeons to make. And it's publishing; don't expect to retire at 40 on all your earnings!

    Advice to Management

Keep valuing the talent WK attracts - and it attracts lots of talented, intelligent people - and try to do things a bit faster!
