    Negative Outlook

I have been working at XLN for less than a year

    Pros

Slightly better than being on benefits.

    Cons

Unpleasant location in a dreary, downmarket, drab, depressing warehouse building opposite a homeless hostel on the edge of a ring road. Outside alcoholic vagrants lay sprawled on the pavement, often sitting in pools of their own puke / urine. Many of the XLN offices lack natural daylight / windows hence they can be depressing places to work. The main entrance has a classy sign outside, the elegance of which is somewhat amusingly belied by the two cigarette bins filled with ash and dog-ends that flank it on either side. Recent management changes have given rise to a culture of fear and negativity paying no regard to integrity or length of service. The focus is now much more sales-aggressive. Aggressive, rude and poorly-educated customer base that irritatingly call in to complain ad nauseum, often in limited English, about some aspect of their contract / bill, or threaten to withdraw their custom as they have found a deal cheaper elsewhere. Salespeople that provide misleading or incorrect information, leading to increased customer complaints. Computer systems that randomly timeout and often don't work. A billing policy that applies numerous stealth charges and a menu system that tries to automatically extend customers' contract length at every slightest amendment. Tariffs that are not always what they seem to be. Bills are presented in a confusing format. No salary increases whatsoever. Ruthless attitude towards staff, giving preferential treatment to the most servile and ingratiating, and dispensing with anyone showing the merest modicum of quality, integrity and independence of thought.
