I worked at ZS Associates full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Some of the nicest, hardest working, most competent and intelligent people I have ever met (and yet still generally quite humble) - Professional but not too formal atmosphere - Less travel than many consulting firms

    Cons

    - Outside of US, the brand is less well known - Manager role is too broad, it feels the most 'successful' Managers are not actually the best but the ones who focus on BD only, leaving some of the better consultants/advisors, people managers, project managers etc. to struggle

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The core values of the organization are very strong and is a big attraction. massive growth opportunities are there in some geographies and business functions. if you are at the right place then learning is also a lot and you work on a lot of new things. exceptional place for the business consulting and business operations group.

    Cons

The company has changed due to the growth in the number of people and lack of connect between different layers of the management. it has started to take up big tech programs which its incapable of running due to lack of tech leaders both at onshore as well as offshore. there are some exceptional tech people but the majority is from the non tech background. since majority of leadership is from the consulting background there is a lack of vision in how to run tech programs effectively as its a new area for the company. despite having highly skilled consulting leaders there is a lot that can be done at the grass roots level for tech programs. for that you need PAM members with strong tech experience.

    Pros

nice people collaborative culture adaptive and treats employees well

I worked at ZS Associates full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people who work there are very smart and hard working. The London office is quite stylish and easy to get to from several train lines. There is a vibrant social scene, and people genuinely look out for each other at the lower levels. The projects and work are generally analytical and interesting for maths, science and engineering majors.

    Cons

The company is run much like a club where people above the consultant level are very cliquey. So, although company overall strategy is quite transparent, daily decisions are taken secretively. The area that I worked in was very badly managed and disorganised. The morale in the team was generally very low.

    Pros

Sales and Marketing focused, a lot of emphasizes on analytics Atmosphere at work is good and relaxed Compensation aligned with industry

    Cons

Not for you if you don't want to work in the Pharmaceutical industry. More and more operations type of projects Management could be more flexible in their approach to work

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very interesting projects and practice areas; get a sense of really contributing to shaping of the pharmaceutical industry; emphasis on flexibility and work-life balance (though not always achieved)

    Cons

Cliquey office; project experience very dependent on Manager/Principal; does not appear to be strong trajectory for female consultants (there are very few female Principals in Europe); little business development training for consultants (though slowly being rectified); little training overall (ditto)

    "Perfect training, medium exits."

I worked at ZS Associates full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Structured training for a smaller firm - globalized and coordinated training and development means technical and soft skills are actively trained rather than expected to be apprenticed. Pretty flexible - office changes, either international or no-travel projects, MBA planning.. all requests are individually considered and managers genuinely seem do their best to help. Kind of well known in consulting and selected industry circles these days (at last!)

    Cons

Note ZS is NOT a strategy consulting shop - its all operational stuff, be prepared to look at and process data for your first year or two. Main drawback I found was industry specificity. If you have had enough of Pharma (many people have after a few years), its time to leave. And where do people go when they leave? Almost always people leave to end up in mid-management in pharma co's.. only a few lucky ones will move upwards to the McKinseys or BCGs Additionally the recent management, especially in the European offices but also in the US, is held in far lower esteem than was the case a few years ago. Growth has stalled, business is slowing. When applying to MBA schools, ZS seems to have a mid-perception among the top schools. Many people leaving into MBA get into top-10 schools, though the company's brand wont stand up enough for a top-3 school (very few zs-ers go to HBS/SGSB etc).
