I worked at ZS Associates full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Some of the nicest, hardest working, most competent and intelligent people I have ever met (and yet still generally quite humble)
    - Professional but not too formal atmosphere
    - Less travel than many consulting firms

    Cons

    - Outside of US, the brand is less well known
    - Manager role is too broad, it feels the most 'successful' Managers are not actually the best but the ones who focus on BD only, leaving some of the better consultants/advisors, people managers, project managers etc. to struggle

I worked at ZS Associates full-time

    Pros

    Nice people
    Convenient office location
    Some interesting project works

    Cons

Slow promotion and very different experience if you work with different teams

    Advice to Management

Focus more of your energy at your people, learn to say no to unreasonable clients!

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to develop oneself as the structure of the organization is very flat and project heterogeneous

    Cons

The work life balance could be better because of the fractional staffing and the growth rate feels like it isn't sustainable

    Advice to Management

Slow down the growth of the firm and invest in initiatives that bring senior management closer to the rest of the firm

    Pros

    Great culture. Truly flat structure.

    Cons

Limited exposure to non-pharma industries. Work leans towards operations more than other strategy consulting firms

I worked at ZS Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can make a lot of friends there. The flaw though is the continuously stated opinion that people there are somehow nicer than any other company. Other than that, it provides a very solid grounding in consulting processes and rigour, in line with other mainstream management consultancies.

    Cons

Bonuses are laughable, promotion is slow and working hours are high. Brand name not strong enough to justify this personal trade-off.

    Advice to Management

Stop claiming "it's all about the people" and then treating people indifferently. Most of senior management have never worked in another company so are out of touch with latest expectations of working standards and pay.

    Pros

    nice people
    collaborative culture
    adaptive and treats employees well

    Cons

double edged sword - ingrained feedback culture - feels like you have to impress the most senior person in the room as opposed to the client.

I worked at ZS Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people who work there are very smart and hard working. The London office is quite stylish and easy to get to from several train lines. There is a vibrant social scene, and people genuinely look out for each other at the lower levels. The projects and work are generally analytical and interesting for maths, science and engineering majors.

    Cons

The company is run much like a club where people above the consultant level are very cliquey. So, although company overall strategy is quite transparent, daily decisions are taken secretively. The area that I worked in was very badly managed and disorganised. The morale in the team was generally very low.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on making the way people work easier to manage and less on compensating overwork and disorganisation through supporting social events.

I worked at ZS Associates (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people
    Great Office
    Lovely Socials
The interview process is not as nerve racking as it has been portrayed
Recruit the best of the best
Great company to start your career with

    Cons

    Long hours
No room for progression and communication
    Lack of trust
    HR Team needs more work

    Advice to Management

Show more trust in your colleagues and show let them feel like they are part of the company. Also make room for progression for other staff and not just staff in important postiions.

I worked at ZS Associates full-time

    Pros

ZS is full of people who are intelligent, driven and enjoyable to work with. ZS expects high quality work from it's employees, but invests highly in ensuring that it's employees develop their skills and experiences.

    Cons

The focus on high quality work can breed a culture where excessive hours become the norm- it can feel difficult to feel you are doing a good job without sacrificing evenings and weekends.

    Advice to Management

Now working for a different company, I look back at ZS and realize that the values (treat people right, do the right thing, get it right) really did sum up the culture at ZS, and make it a very positive place to work. Maintaining this will, I'm sure, ensure that the company remains successful and continues to grow.
