I have been working at Zopa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Colleagues are intelligent, friendly, helpful and easy to approach. Interesting and ambitious software development projects using the latest technologies. Good work/life balance. Management at all levels is fairly decent.

    Cons

Salaries are higher elsewhere (but not by enough to temp me away). Quite tight with 'perks' - free alcohol is only Friday after 4.45pm, and it's a limited supply. Free fruit is very limited in supply. Developer laptops low spec and only running Windows 8.1. Difficult to get IT requests fulfilled, especially with the new 'ZOOM' system.

    Advice to Management

Make sure developers don't get weighed down with processes. Be a bit more generous with perks and salaries. Find a way to make working with the Barcelona teams easier and more productive.

    Pros

Helpful colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge and help you learn new things - you can spend time with other teams to learn what they do and even though people are busy, they're generous with their time and will give you advice on learning new skills. There is a lot of transparency across the business and the exec team are really approachable and open. The main thing: it is actually a place where they do what they preach - the higher ups genuinely care about the mission of the company and are trying to put customers first in everything the company does.

    Cons

It's a fast growing company, so there are expected growing pains with culture and trying to keep the flexibility and creativity with a growing team - especially bringing in lots of new people for the bank launch, but they seem like they're taking this concern seriously and trying to focus more on culture.

    Advice to Management

Keep the openness to hear and use input from your team at all levels and be make sure that new teams growing in the business have the diversity to keep from getting stuck in the way we think through customer problems.

    Pros

Outstanding colleagues who are both very smart and nice (low ego). Great leadership team. We are working on interesting, cutting edge products in the fintech space that not many other fintech companies are working on. The company tries to do the right thing and isn't optimizing for profit but rather once to build products that add value to real people. Usually the grass is always greener somewhere else but I can truly say that I very much enjoy working at Zopa.

    Cons

We don't have Slack yet :(

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you are doing, gathering feedback and constantly improving. Keep company culture as your north star.

I have been working at Zopa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Big focus on culture; majority of employees very approachable and willing to help others (even if they are very busy on other things!)
    - Very agile working environment - things move fast, so be prepared to keep up!
    - All questions submitted by employees are answered by respective individual (right up to CEO) with honesty and openness; firm priorities and ambitions regularly communicated to wider audience
    - Development highly encouraged; much flexibility to move into more technical roles if willingness to learn exhibited

    Cons

    - Some 'Heads of', whilst technically strong, can be very abrasive to interact with and inwardly focused on their own priorities, not reflecting the approach and culture of their employees/teams and the wider company

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on objectives, but not at the expense of what makes working for Zopa great!

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Zopa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Zopa is a fintech with a people-first mindset.

    * Zopa cares about its employees and our customers. There are strong cross-team ties, and I consider many of my peers friends too.

    * I've had the privilege to be side by side with some of the most inspiring people I've ever met. Zopa is a place where you can not only learn more about the fintech scene and improve your skills, but you can also feel inspired and learn from some of the best leaders.

    * Great feedback is always available to improve just about anything you may be interested in: yourself, the product, designs, tech, strategy, what have you...

    Cons

    * While I appreciate the amount of care Zopa has for it's employees, at times it can feel like a bit of a splurge: their heart's in the right place, but at times their efforts may not have the desired impact. Just ask before spending, and you'll be able to offer competitive salaries.

    * The "do without asking" mentality at times bleeds into the tech side of the company, occasionally resulting in puzzling decisions.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the efforts in providing such a great environment with such great humans! Just keep an eye on employee compensation and tech decisions.
