You made our day with your four star review! We couldn’t have written a better list of “pros.” We regularly compare our benefits package to others in the industry and are proud to say that Zurich benefits rank in the top third when compared to our Insurance competitors-but will ...

I have been working at Zurich North America full-time

    Pros

    Great place for job diversity

    Cons

Bureaucracy is a killer as everything is done centrally.

    Advice to Management

Review your grading structure. Why wait 10 years for a grade move if you can move to another organisation and get it?

I worked at Zurich North America full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Well organised and planned student intern process. Given our own protect that gave us the opportunity to present to senior managers.

    Cons

Too bureaucratic and procedure centered. Impossible to get people to listen to your ideas on how to save the organisation money.

    Advice to Management

Give employees with ideas on how to save money a chance to be listened to.

I have been working at Zurich North America

    Pros

    Good People, Good working environment

    Cons

Too much outsourcing of key functions (IT, HR)

    Advice to Management

If you want to look at expenses then consider how many Business Managers and Relationship leaders are actually needed as opposed to how many we have. Clients want to speak to the people who directly affect their business and not a go-between.

I have been working at Zurich North America

    Pros

It's company on the up - after some fairly tepid years, Jim Schiro has successfully turned the firm around, with a focus on the fundamentals of the business, that has improved the way business is done, and the bottom line. Internal barriers to communication appear to have diminished, and continue to reced, with a more united approach to doing business: Despite shoddy systems, the average employee has a great deal...

    Cons

The internal systems are a legacy of the old Eagle Star days, and are a hinderence to doing business, however steps are being taken in this respect to introduce electronic workflow - a step in the right direction. The company also suffers from being less well-known outside of the insurance community, and is tarred with the same brush as other insurance firms that can be considered the poor relation of banking, etc....

    Advice to Management

Once the financial requirements are in place, strip the sytems down and streamline them: It's better to have a simple, effective system, than to cheaply outsource a slow and inefficient one. Aside from that, things are looking good for the future.

  8. "Best Job I’ve Ever Had"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Culture & Values
    • Career Opportunities
    • Compensation and Benefits
    • Senior Management
Former Employee - Regulatory Analyst in Schaumburg, IL

I worked at Zurich North America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Secure job (always a need for Regulatory/compliance roles, not able to “trim the fat” too much in that department) Interesting job Great experience (learning the lines of business, coverages and eating plans and beginning of the product life cycle for Underwriting)

    Cons

Since everyone tends to stay in their role in the department until retirement, there is not a lot of new or promotional opportunity on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

Create new opportunities at every job grade level

Former Employee - Underwriting Assistant in Melville, NY

I worked at Zurich North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Team Environment - Easy to move between different departments

    Cons

    - Unfortunately, there was a lay off while I was there but it did not affect my department

    "Rhetoric vs Reality"

      Doesn't Recommend
      Neutral Outlook
      No Opinion of CEO

I worked at Zurich North America

      Pros

Good 401K. But in reality their match level is quite common across larger employers

      Cons

-Thinking back on senior leader presentations over the past 2 years, 90% plus of those leaders are gone. There is zero management consistency, therefore they’re strategically schizophrenic. -Layoffs, all the time, at least every 18 months, department by department, you can set your watch by it. -the rhetoric: we care, we love our employees, we listen to you. The reality: you’re a number, we’ll fire anyone, even the...
