    I have been working at athenahealth full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The mission is meaningful It's a fast pace job, that is flexible to a point. Great colleagues

    Cons

    I am in total agreement with regard to the management. You really need to walk a mile in the shoes of your employees. This is not an easy job for the faint of heart, you want us to stop attrition and yet you tie our hands. Our clients are leaving because we won't budge when it comes to reductions in rate, and then you want to hold us accountable for that. Way too many young managers without a clue.

    Advice to Management

    Choose a plan and stick with it. It's time to grow up as a company. athena was basically run like a high school with the popular kids only succeeding.

    Pros

    For the most part, athena is a great company to work for - fast past, cutting edge environment. Benefits are getting better.

    Cons

    If you are good at your job, you get lots of additional work given to you, which makes the work/life balance difficult at times. Huge restructuring done recently, company still seems unsettled waiting to find out whats next.

    More transparency about what's going on and plans for 2018

    Awesome and smart people, relaxed and casual work environment, opportunities for development schedule and work from home flexibility depending on job function

    Cons

    High level management seems to make decisions based on the way the wind was blowing without thought from or input by those actually doing the job. Sometimes felt like changes were made just for the sake of shaking things up.

    Pros

    Employees genuinely care about the customer's experience. Very interesting workplace with frequent changes and many opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute.

    Cons

    Managers tend to have more power than their knowledge allows them to properly utilize.

    Advice to Management

    If this company can survive the push to short sited near-term profitability, get out of the way of the individual contributors and let them do the work that is vital to the athenahealth's mission.

    Cons

    What was once a fun, exciting tech company is now a typical corporate sellout. athena's only concern now is how to cut costs so that the numbers will look good on paper in order to attract buyers. The small group segment is a joke and the poor clients that are trapped into using athena are constantly suffering. athena is attempting to pivot to the hospital segment and selling an inferior, incomplete product to these...

      Smart, eager, motivated, chill coworkers. Sweet space and perks to go with it.

      Cons

      Poor direction from leadership. Things are constantly changing which is to be expected but messaging doesn't keep up. It makes it difficult to know what you're supposed to be doing and how secure your role is at any given point in time.

      Advice to Management

      Clarify intent, language, and acknowledge when things are dirty and the effect it has on your teams.
