I have been working at athenahealth full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very progressive company that values all employees and what they can contribute; there is a lot of career growth and ton of hiring going on; financial outlook looks strong; they empower employees to work independently without being micromanaged; the campus in Watertown is beautiful - really a first-class work environment; employees are very high caliber with a lot of talent and drive to contribute. The company has a great mission that affects the lives of all Americans. If you like dogs, you can bring your dog to work. I highly recommend the company and am happy working there.

    Cons

Not many cons, if any. I think it's the best company I've worked at.

I have been working at athenahealth full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work-life balance Interesting and compelling problems to solve Unique office space Some really great teammates and direct managers

    Cons

Constant reprioritization and regoranization of departments Lack of diversity - especially in leadership. We used to have quite a few women in high leadership positions (though our ethnic diversity in leadership has never been great.) Due to mysterious firings and changing of positions, we mostly have white men in leadership positions. Could be a pro if you are a white male. New management has changed the focus from the people and the work to just the work. Some of the best humans I have ever worked with have been pushed out of the company in favor of startup bros and "fresh" people who are more concerned with making themselves look good than making their teams feel empowered and have job satisfaction. While the CEO's transparency is a pro, he has said one too many offensive things for me to respect him. He has tried to learn from his mistakes in some cases, but actions speak louder than words. All software developers get stock with their compensation while other R&D functions get none though we also build our products Bad health plan. CEO wants us to shop for our healthcare while he sails on his yacht every weekend. My PT costs $100 out of pocket if I use insurance and $50 with self pay.

I have been working at athenahealth

    Pros

The culture is excellent, the people are very friendly, active, and outgoing The perks are similar to what you'd normally find in tech: bean bag chairs, beer fridges, massages, bringing your dog to work, etc.

    Cons

Doesn't have the same brand recognition as other big-name tech companies, pay isn't quite as competitive (but definitely still very high)

I worked at athenahealth full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good company to learn The team I was working is a best place to gain knowledge. New technologies, teammates are so helpful Good benefits HR Policies and the way HR concern about us is too good

    Cons

But the hell part is if you held up in collector data capture team under a particular manager , employee knows that is hell. she calla people at night and shouth it happened to me once . It made me so down. Whenever she is frustrated she call teammates for meeting and shout at us. i dont like it. the manager is the only reason i left the company. even people in the team dont like her attitude. she always call people and torcher. i am not her family member or friend to show her frustration. i felt so frustrated and waiting for chance to leave athena health because of her. she calls and ask for problem and the improvement , people as a employee below her wont tell this on face. if work is not done sometimes she will handle good. she is not fit to manage people. she will encourage sometime she wont have biased attitude among seniors. but for juniors i dont knw. none shares anything. but she behaves like a boss and sometime treat us like a slave. better before joing athena ask for which team your are in. go for any team not under her. like this many things happened to team people even i know it happend to our junior. manager atleast work on your negatives. atleast dont call me after this. athenahealth i dont want her calls or messages anymore please. now i am happy. Why do I tell you this? Because unified cultures portrayed on company marketing videos aren’t the norm. You can see her in company videos The quality of YOUR experience will largely depend on the micro-climate of culture created by your manager, your managers manager and a handful of people you’ll be interacting with the most.

I have been working at athenahealth full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work-life balance is unparalleled at athena; no crazy hours, just get your job done. The benefits are good as well. Also, the people here are amazing. You’ll get to work with some of the brightest minds in health tech. In addition, you are given complete autonomy and are trusted by management to make the right calls. athena is growing right now and, ever since the acquisition, it’s a more mature company. Some believe it is on track for an IPO soon. Right now, athena is a hidden gem. Not a lot of people are aware how good it is working here.

    Cons

    Compensation could be more competitive.
