I worked at athenahealth full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people to work with Lots of places to transfer to within Good Insurance

    Cons

Management is 50/50. Some are really awesome and others are only to make themselves look good. Lots of drama and need to play "the game" to get ahead

I worked at athenahealth full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Many brilliant people and some fair, kind managers. Some Sr. Managers were awesome.

    Cons

Executive leadership along with their obvious favorites were the show. Some very talented people who did not play their game were not recognized and that was very frustrating regardless how hard working some have been. Myself included. If you 'complained' then later you experienced the backlash.

    Advice to Management

None. I heard they cleaned house yet some were left that needed to go. Wonder who was behind that decision. Find a system where employees feel safe to state their mind without repercussions. HR is not it!

I worked at athenahealth full-time for more than a year

      Pros

It use to be the cool company to work for..

      Cons

It is not the company that it use to under JB leadership. Restructure every year, there is another restructuring coming later this year.. Bob Sergent is an horrible CEO and will run the company down! In finance, there is no flexibility and very little work life balance. Finance is very different from other parts of the company because there is lots and lots of politics and no independence to do your work. There hasn’t...

I worked at athenahealth full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Gorgeous campus and food. Competitive benefits. Very smart people with good intentions. When I left recently, the pros became far and few. Athena started off as an amazing experience with so much fun and awesome smart people, now, not so much. Many attempts have been and are continued to be made to reinforce a culture of feedback, but when management cannot really do anything with your feedback (or just doesn't even...

      Cons

      - I worked in client-facing IT operations, so this may not apply to all teams. - Devs and network engineers keep you out of the loop for decisions that impact your work and your clients. Devs and network engineers are implicitly taught to disregard the bigger picture (and are now almost all offshore anyway), leading to plenty of tech debt. - As the high-performers and ambitious people left, my department became a high...

I have been working at athenahealth full-time

      Pros

Good work/life balance in some roles, beautiful campus, shuttles, the salad bar that is subsidized.

      Cons

The tech. stack is falling apart quickly and will require significant investment in order for the company to be successful.

I have been working at athenahealth full-time for more than a year

      Pros

It’s relaxed and if you are motivated, and dedicated you will be empowered with resources and trust. It’s not that difficult to stand out if you are actually capable.

      Cons

Athena is filled with people who want a cushy job and do not really push the boundaries. That’s not to say that you cannot find great people who want to do great things just the majority of the people really don’t think of it as a business that has limited resources and you must make decisions based on business value.

      Pros

colleagues are generally great. Tools to do work are great.

      Cons

Promoting people that shouldn't be leaders is hurting the company along with lacking the original culture it had before being purchased
