Pros

Most people in the company are pretty nice and willing to help. The company does a lot to provide perks that are comparable to typical bay area start-ups. Competitive compensation, with good bonuses. Employee health premiums are covered 100%. There are other perks like gym membership to Equinox, catered meals, and housing stipend. Company has been around for a while, and that can mean stability for people who need that. Company provides visa sponsorship to those in need. Autonomy in projects (which could be a good or bad thing)

Cons

Company is small so there aren't many opportunities to grow within your career. There is also lack of mentorship and professional development. For a company that's been around for a while, most people are inexperienced (this being their first job out of college). CEO also lacks previous start-up experience and management skills, and is very defensive about his ideas and company in general. Company is not transparent. Most employees aren't sure what the long term goals, mission, and vision are (aside from "building a good product"). Lots of talk about what the hell is going on and where we are going. Business initiatives are not aggressive and loosely defined, and that should be worrisome especially for being in such a competitive space. Even after 8 years, future plans and goals for the company lack a sense of urgency (but this doesn’t seem to bother the co-founders). There has also been a huge amount of turnover (but this doesn't seem to bother the cofounders); company seems to be going downhill. Questionable prioritization, as culture seems to be driven purely by engineering. There is a lack of focus on other departments like branding/marketing, HR/people, business development, user experience/design.

Pros

+CEO is personable and easily accessible. +Everyone (with the exception of 1-2 people) is very friendly and helpful. +Competitive salary. + FT and intern engineering projects always get shipped.

Cons

-Virtually no corporate communication. You are welcome to sit in on any meetings, but other than that you wouldn't know what is going on in other departments/teams. -Co-Founders don't state values, goals, etc. other than to build a good product and get more users. -imo is different from most Silicon Valley tech companies. It is more conservative: Set office hours, no remote work. -As the company is very small, there is no room for advancement.

Pros

Good perks! Lots of free t-shirts, concierge medical service, gym membership, food, etc. Salaries and a lucrative bonus structure are higher than other tech companies that don't have a business plan, which seems to help keep people around a bit longer than they might have otherwise stayed. Good place for people who want a job without a lot of pressure. Good place for people looking to have a good salary and benefits with a lot of stability - they aren't held accountable to investors and board members.

Cons

The company has been around for over 8 years with no moves towards an exit or monetization. Team size hasn’t grown in several years. No clear goals communicated to help employees and the company grow. Doesn’t move fast like most startups - has been around for 8+ years working on messaging, 4+ years working on voice/video calls but still lagging in development. Most of the team and the founders aren’t very career or growth motivated. People who do very little are rewarded the same as those who work hard. Founders expect most staff to keep quiet and do as told - little room to contribute ideas or help improve the product and company. A lot of the staff aren’t very friendly - several people seem unhappy to be there which has contributed to a negative culture. A few of the engineers have bad tempers, getting upset frequently and demeaning other employees - the founders don’t seem to be bothered by this at all.
