Our colleague vision is for Compare the Market to be the place of opportunity... and especially true for career development so that every colleague is able to drive their own career journey. We are passionate about 3 key areas - personal development for all, technical & skills development and leadership development. We took the time to catch up with Ellie, one of our Software Engineers, to find out about her career development journey since joining us a graduate and whether or not everything we promised in those early days has actually been delivered for her. Take a read…

For people to be able to develop themselves and drive their own careers is a big win for us at Compare the Market, whether that be for people starting out and joining us as an apprentice or for colleagues who have been with us for a while and are keen to take on a new challenge.

MyBnk is our charity partner and we recently welcomed two of their expert trainers into our offices to host our first Meerkat Money School for our colleagues and their children. MyBnk delivered their interactive financial education programme, Money Twist, which is designed to set positive money habits and mind-sets from an early age, teaching our very own pupils to become informed consumers, savvy savers and mindful spenders! MyBnk commented, “We had a wonderful time at Compare the Market's Meerkat Money School! It's a fantastic initiative that brought together lots of fun, laughter, and learning about money. It speaks volumes about the culture at Compare the Market to not only offer such an event - but to also have had the parents in the classroom, engaged and learning alongside their kids!” The day was a huge success with the children loving their free breakfast and lunch in our restaurant, a fun-filled goodie bag, amazing cookies and an afternoon of crafts… not forgetting the money tips they walked away with!

At Compare the Market, we love celebrating success and last week, we were delighted to host our first official career celebration event which we created to celebrate the successes of every colleague's career development journey. The event was hosted by our CEO, Mark Bailie, along with our exec team and we recognised colleagues who have been promoted, have moved laterally to extend their skills or have received a professional qualification. The theme was ‘Spring Garden’ and the room was beautifully decorated with full size blossom trees, weeping willows, flowers, bunting and enough foliage to get lost in! And everyone had the chance to share their proudest career achievements whilst enjoying afternoon tea, a glass of fizz and mingling with fellow colleagues. At the end of the event, everyone left with a bouquet of flowers as a reminder of their special afternoon. Needless to say, it was a huge success and was so well received by everyone who attended – and because the feedback has been so positive, we'll be planning another one very soon!

Trans Day of Visibility 2022 celebrates trans and non-binary people and raises awareness of discrimination faced by trans people worldwide. One of our colleagues, Toni, did an amazing talk to provide information on just some of the key issues affecting the transgender community and said “I was inspired to create the presentation when I became aware that significant challenges affecting the transgender community were not being widely reported by UK media and I felt the challenges that transgender people face across the world are often not visible and I wanted to help raise that visibility.” The presentation was a whole team effort by Compare the Market's LGBTQ+ community, our Internal Comms team and our Diversity & Inclusivity team and was really well received internally. Olivia, one of our Digital Graduates, commented "I thought it was amazing. Really informative and eye-opening - Toni had all the facts and history prepared and gave an unbiased and professional account to the audience - I think it was both emotional and educational for everyone who attended." Thank you Toni!

We have some amazingly inspirational women in our business so as part of International Women's Day 2022, we caught up with Dimple, one of our Engineering Managers, to get her thoughts on what International Women's Day means to her, whether she's experienced bias in her career, how she's challenged it and what advice she would give to employers as well as the next female generation. We captured it all in our latest blog – take a read! We’ve also recorded a quick video of some more of our female colleagues sharing their thoughts and experiences too - it really is thought provoking! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0MxgMMKJRs&ab_channel=CompareTheMarket #BreakTheBias #IWD2022

As part of our CSR programme, our amazing data team have recently taken part in a Meerkat Your Skills initiative where they supported a charity called The Kite Trust by sharing their knowledge and expertise. The objective was to help The Kite Trust better understand their geographic footprint and provide them with some actionable recommendations. Our data team even managed to enhance their own skills in the process so it was a definite win-win!

Large organisations' reliance on data and analytics is becoming increasingly visible in the workspace and the skillsets required to analyse data through innovative methods are vitally important. Unfortunately, many charities and social programmes don't have access to these types of skillsets.
