    Innovative PACE Program Supports Scholars with Individualized Instruction

    In line with Democracy Prep's shift towards defining itself as a network of high support/high achievement schools, co-teachers Jess Wall and Emily Ritchings have pioneered a new special education program at Democracy Prep Harlem High School (DPHHS) called PACE (Plan for Advocacy and Collaborative Education) to provide classroom instruction with a 12:1 scholar to teacher ratio.

  • Democracy Prep is looking for bilingual teachers to join its founding bilingual program team at Freedom Prep. These founding teachers will have an exciting opportunity to positively impact scholars’ lives, shape the bilingual program at FPE or FPH, and use their bilingual expertise to be a guiding voice on campus.     Bilingual Program Launching at Freedom Prep for 2019-2020 School Year

    Next year, Freedom Prep High (FPH) and Freedom Prep Elementary (FPE) will each begin a bilingual program to educate the English Language Learner (ELL) population in Camden, New Jersey. Democracy Prep is looking for bilingual teachers to join the founding bilingual teams at FPH and FPE!

    How One Teacher's 'Bicultural' Approach to Dual Language Education Instills Cultural Pride in Her Scholars

    Perla Torres teaches Pre-K in a dual language classroom at Democracy Prep at the Stewart Campus. Her classroom is made up of three, four, and five year olds, some who are native Spanish speakers and some who are native English speakers. Perla sees her own story reflected in her scholars.

  • Three years ago Adivis came to the United States not knowing much english. Today, she's a senior at Freedom Prep HS and plans on going to medical school. One of her goals as a doctor? Make patients whose first language isn't english, feel comfortable and have someone they can relate to.     How Becoming Bilingual Changed a Freedom Prep Scholar's Vision for Herself

    Three years ago, Adivis left the home she had always known in the Dominican Republic and moved to America. Even though she had taken some English classes in the Dominican Republic, when she came to the United States, she was unable to understand most academic instruction.

    Showing Up for Scholars: How Authenticity Drives DPPS' Founding Director of Scholar Support

    This is Sharese's second year in the role of Director of Scholar Support. She began her work with Democracy Prep as a DREAM coach at Harlem Prep Middle a little more than five years ago and then moved into the role of Scholar Support Specialist before becoming Director of Scholar Support.

  • Ms. Kretzer started as a DREAM Coach at Democracy Prep Endurance Middle in Harlem, NY and is now the Assistant Principal at Democracy Prep at the Agassi Campus in Las Vegas, NV. Read about Ms. Kretzer's journey and why she chose to #WorkatDP.

  • Harlem Prep High School Ops Manager Ms. Cosme began her Democracy Prep career when her scholars were in elementary school. Little did they know how she was helping to build the culture and teachers at the school that's about to send them to college.
