Company Updates

  • This role sits at the heart of HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group.
As part of our Inland Pre-Clearance team, you’ll work closely with other talented and dedicated Officers, and experts from the Border Force. Together, you’ll determine whether consignments of goods are undervalued, incorrectly described or counterfeit, or should be smoothly cleared to be imported into the UK.

Far from a standard office or desk-based role; you’ll be on site, working outdoors and in enclosed spaces, opening boxes to check good and often kneeling or standing for long periods. So it’s important you’re dynamic and positive, with a passion for interesting, varied and challenging work.

You’ll need to follow procedures. But ultimately, it’s your interpersonal skills that are most important here. Working unsupervised, you’ll use your keen eye to assess commercial paperwork and occasionally deliver news an importer doesn’t want to hear.

  • Our Intelligence Analysts must have a passion for analytics, an innovative mind-set, and a willingness to learn new skills. They need to question current methods of delivery to enhance our processes and to offer a different perspective.

As an Intelligence Analyst, you’ll use structured analytical approaches, tools and techniques to provide assessments and briefings that enhance the development of criminal investigation cases. You’ll contribute to successful prosecutions and inform the decisions of enforcement teams both inside and outside HMRC.

The ability to understand and solve problems is essential. You’ll identify, collect, interpret and evaluate all relevant intelligence and information with accuracy and perception. You’ll use analytical techniques to see past information gaps and inconsistencies, quickly gain an understanding of sometimes unfamiliar and complex issues. You will also identify key information to make sound conclusions.

We’re looking for proactive people to join us and embark on a training programme to help us tackle criminal activity. Perhaps you think you’re not qualified to do that – well you’d be wrong. We give our analysts a complete course of training to do the job. Within the first few months you’ll attend the Government Intelligence Analyst Training - GIAT.

You’ll join the Intelligence Analysis profession and can complete modules to work towards a City and Guilds qualification in Intelligence Analysis. You’ll also attend a myriad of interesting week long training courses with students from other government departments.
