Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard Camden are very proud to be accredited to the level of excellence for the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard. The Mayor’s Good Work Standard sets the benchmark for the highest employment standards and demonstrates that as an employer, Camden is contributing to a fairer and more inclusive London. These good practices are also an important step in attracting and retaining a diverse, talented and productive workforce. GWS were particularly impressed with Camden’s work on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and actions we have taken, especially the publication of our disability pay gap and our continued working partnership with the Business Disability Forum.
Friends of the Earth have rated Camden as the top Council in London on Climate. We are also joint third in the entire country! This is hugely significant in the context of the Climate Change Emergency. It is also all the more impressive that we are at the forefront of thinking what more that we can do, following on from the Climate Change Citizen’s Assembly. Through hard work Harold Garner, Head of Sustainability, Air Quality & Energy and his team as well as many others across the council, have made this possible. Harold is the first to recognise that we have got to this place because we have colleagues across the organisation who are willing to push the boundaries on climate change within different areas of work. Whether it relates to our ambitious transport strategy, combined heat and power schemes on housing estates or solar power on our school buildings it is clear we have an organisation and committed people are determined to lead the way! There is much more to do as we tackle the emergency and we are looking forward to taking on that challenge
Camden are continuing to do their bit for the environment! From September our onsite café will stop serving hot drinks in non-recyclable takeaway cups as well as not providing plastic cutlery. This is just one of many small steps Camden are taking on our journey to become a greener organisation and a more sustainable borough. In the run-up to the change in our café we are offering staff subsidised reusable bamboo e-coffee cups.
The Mayor of London today launched the Mayors Good Work Standard, a benchmark for the best employment standards, and Camden are proud to be one of 34 organisations recognised as #MayorsGoodWorkStandard leaders. The Mayor wants to make London fairer and more inclusive, recognising the need to protect workers’ rights and ensure all Londoners can access stable jobs in workplaces that pay a living wage and support their wellbeing. #MayorsGoodWorkStandard.
