On Monday 1 October 2018 Openreach people become employees of Openreach Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the BT Group. This is the final step in the move to greater independence. There hasn’t been a bigger day for us since our creation in 2006. Back then, the aim was to promote competition in the UK telecoms market and give Communication Providers (CPs) equal access to our network. Since then 600 CPs use our network every day to offer services to UK homes and businesses. And now, this change builds on the last, making sure that we’re seen by CPs to have greater independence from BT Group so they can confidently work with us on their plans. Our greater independence from BT Group is giving our customers more confidence that we treat all customers equally and fairly. The response to the change has been positive with almost every national newspaper covering the story.
