  • At the age of 62, many people are thinking about plans for retirement – but not Mark Heydon who has just qualified as a member of our TUI Airways Cabin Crew. After a career spanning five decades, Mark found himself looking for a new challenge in October last year.

When applying for the Cabin Crew role, Mark was worried he might be too old and so was a little surprised when he was selected for an interview. He had nothing to worry about though, as his outstanding people skills and passion for excellent customer service shone through, making him the perfect candidate.

Ian Campbell, Director of Customer Delivery at TUI Airways said: “Age is absolutely not a boundary to becoming Cabin Crew with us. Candidates need many key skills in order to gain their wings, but most importantly a passion for delivering excellent customer service. Mark is a shining example of the fantastic crew we have in Cardiff and across the airline and we’re really proud to have him in the team.”

  • We’re delighted to share that Fritz Joussen has been honoured as one of the Top CEOs in 2019 on Glassdoor - one of the world’s largest job search and recruitment sites. Winning this award is down to the feedback provided by our colleagues across the TUI Group.

Christian Sutherland-Wong, Glassdoor President and Chief Operating Officer said: “Glassdoor’s Top CEOs award continues to be more competitive every year, and I congratulate each leader on their achievement. Today’s job seekers are looking for leaders who share their values and will empower them to bring their full selves to work. More and more, we’re seeing Top CEOs make decisions to shape the culture of their organisations to help recruit and retain quality talent, which has a direct correlation to fuelling business success.”

  • When faced with a mountain of discarded pillows that had been used by customers on flights over the course of the season, TUI Airway’s Aircraft Service Manager, Laleta Jnagal, decided to find charitable causes who could use them.

Working with her TUI Destination Experiences colleagues, several worthy causes were identified in Mexico, Florida and Mauritius. Laleta, along with the support of Nick Carter, started putting plans in place to get the pillows, otherwise destined for disposal or landfill, out to the relevant destinations.

Receiving the first delivery of pillows in resort, Nick saw first-hand the impact they had on the local community, “These pillows have brought smiles to the faces of so many who needed them. It was a real eye-opener to see how much joy can be brought to someone with a simple pillow to make their days that little bit more comfortable. We’d like to thank Laleta, and TUI Airways, for thinking about our local communities in resort.”

Well done to everyone involved in this great initiative.
