I applied in-person. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Government of India, Department of Space, Indian Space Research Organisation (Bhopal) in Jul 2021
Interview
First there is a MCQ (80 questions with negative marking) for 2hrs, test to screen out the candidates. The test is moderately difficult but, the attempts must be made quickly.
the selected candidates are called up for an interview.
The shortlisted candidates have to fill the form on the portal, provide the details and the place of interview. Prepare at least 4 subjects and some basic topics like satellite communication, radar, microwave devices etc. (which could be asked even if you not mention it), some communication concepts from the ESE syllabus(enough). They will encourage you to give valid reasons and help you out in the interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
EDC and ANALOG
1. Name some RF devices (semiconductor RF like Gunn, varactor, Schottky, tunnel diode, Pin diode and avalanche diode )
2. what are the characteristic of Photo diode? (biasing and working), difference between phototransistor (small impedance)and photo diode.
3. Zener physics and its fabrication (heavy doping + reason for it, narrow and strong electric field), zener uses
4.E-k diagram of direct and indirect semiconductor and then they ask for the use in Rf devices(the negative resistance region for microwave application)
5.Uses of differential amplifier and advantage from conventional type differential amplifier.
6.Biasing technique in (fixed bias, emitter degenerate, collector to base bias ), which one is best and when?
control system
1.what is transfer function (they asked for specific definition)?
2.difference in state space analysis and transfer func. approach.
3.they asked about controllers and difference between pd , pi and p controller.(it is better when you associate the concept through root locus and other methods)
EMT
what is free space impedance?
difference in wave guide and transmission line (modes)
AT LAST they asked whether you now something about satellite communication?
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Government of India, Department of Space, Indian Space Research Organisation (Bengaluru) in Jun 2010
Interview
ISRO interviews are a bit tough to clear. I feel its all luck. Some people get questions from their area of interest. Some may not even get one question. There are good chances of getting questions from your project. If you are an ECE student, possible areas are digital electronics, digital & analog communications, Linear integrated circuits, microprocessors, control systems & some times computer networks.
You may be asked to explain some questions with the help of board. There will be about 9 to 10 members in the interview panel. The guy at the centre (interview panel head) will probably be some centre director. You can mostly expect only HR questions from the panel head.

Question 1
Which one performs better in-terms of noise - truncation or rounding? The question is related to signal processing
