Covington DC vs. Cooley DC for a lateral M&A associate?

Partner scheduled a call this morning and during the call referred to today as a "holiday" with air quotes 🙃
I hate my group. A lot. Feel like I made a mistake coming here. Not looking for advice. Just sucks. For people looking to lateral, the grass is not always greener.
I have a $1.2M net worth as a 3rd year NYC mid level (including home equity) yet I still feel broke and empty. Majority of paycheck simply goes into retirement accounts, mortgage or index funds. Not interested in dating/relationships and most days I just eat a six piece chicken McNuggets on the way home from work for dinner and rice and beans at home on weekends. No traveling, no vacations, not close with family (not interested in any of that). Anyone else similar? I can’t be the only one
What really is first year equity partner comp at Kirkland? I don’t believe it is actually over $2.0M but correct me please.
Anyone find it weird how big of a chip NOT coming from privilege is to some lawyers? Seems like these people think any conversation about debt and privilege is an affront to their existence as if we were even talking about them or their qualifications. Like b, what do you want from me? Life isn't fair, I didn't determine your life. Why you bitter at me for, if this job ain't making you happy then just leave, no need to be insecure about it and say it's a money thing or whatever
Neither
As a former Cov M&A associate with spouse at Cooley, good thing about Cov is the hours are not as crazy as Cooley. However, DC office social culture is pretty awkward. Also, Cov you won’t get any basic paralegal support. If you are junior level, you will have to handle both paralegal and associate work.
Where are you now? Greener pastures?
