While travlng for work, I got sick & had to miss a planned excursion. Later, at dinner, I was eating bread because my stomach was still upset. A coworker joked in front of the group that maybe I had drank too much. The comment bothered me because it wasn’t true, & it felt dismissive. This isn’t the first time this person has made teasing comments, but this one felt different because I was clearly not feeling well. How have you handled coworkers whose humor comes at someone else’s expense?

Was made redundant in Citi Belfast last year. I was Global Head of FX Middle Office. Ive since learned that the move was orchestrated by an MD in to move the role to another location where his 'friend' was hired. This same senior manager has promoted another 'friend' who he secretly goes on camping trips. Its very corrupt. Anyone have similar experiences as aware quite a few have been shown the door to make room for 'friends' by this same MD.

Leadership question: When a supervisor asks for your honest opinion about a coworker, how candid should you be? Do you give your unfiltered assessment if you believe the person is underperforming or relying too heavily on others, or do you focus only on objective facts and let management draw its own conclusions? Curious how others have handled this situation.

Question for advisors: A client passes away. The account is relatively small, and there’s a good chance the surviving spouse will move the assets elsewhere. From a practice-management standpoint, there may be little economic incentive to spend money on flowers, memorial donations, etc. Do you send flowers, make a donation, send a handwritten card, call the family, or simply handle the paperwork professionally? Where do you draw the line between being a business owner and being a human being?
