I got to know I will have a coding interview using HackerRank to assess my technical skills for Technical Program Manager job opening at Nvidia. While I’m disappointed with the changing ways of interview structure for technical roles, I am curious if anyone else aiming for Program Manager roles came across coding assessments and what was your experience?
Typically, knowing how to code is NOT a requirement for TPMs. This may vary from company to company though. In my experience, most TPMs need to focus on system design. I can tell you now a Principal TPM in, say, Amazon would not pass the interview with Nvidia if coding assessment is in scope. Surely Nvidia has Principal Engineers who can do code reviews?
