Just wait until you are told you will not be paid a commission for the full amount as agreed upon in your employment terms because through no fault of your own, the service department didn't complete the job under an acceptable profit margin; regardless of what GP you sold the job at. That cost me over $5,000!
Or my personal favorite, you will not be paid a commission on a long time customer because the owner does not want to pay you and advises you through the professional communicated means of a text message! Could have cost me another $700 except I produced records showing ownership of the account, a history of commissions earned on the account, a record of my discussing the"widget of the week" with said customer and evidence where fellow employees were instructed to remove my name from the account to avoid having it show up on the commission report.
Take my advice, get everything in writing, save all documentation and do not make exceptions. You will be taken for granted, you will be used and abused. Unless he has changed your employment classification you are a Non-exempt employee! You will only be paid for 8 hours per day unless OT is pre-authorized. Keep that in mind when you work tradeshows, golf tournaments, answer phone calls or emails after hours. Mr. Moore knows the amount of work you are putting in and the hours you are spending, however, if you do not request to be compensated for OT he will not say a word...he'll gladly accept your voluntary, dedicated work ethics. This goes for your lunch time as well...to thy own self be true! There is a reason why this company has been sued by former employees at least 3 times in the last 10 years...make the most of it, but don't drop your guard for a minute. And while you are at it, if you have young daughters, keep them away.
