I had a two-stage interview, one technical coding level with some SQL and Python conceptual/coding questions. The second step was interviewing two people. Problems with the interview:
Anonymous
- The interviewees were fresh data scientist/data science managers 2-4 years out of master's/Ph.D. with fairly limited understanding of the field of biomedical / healthcare data science. - As an analogy to a prescription recommender system for oncology patients, they discussed a question about a recommender system for people who want to find a restaurant. Given a basic definition, they wanted me to expand the definition with required additions to the data. (consider this mapping: client = patient, restaurant= healthcare facility, dish= prescription) - I am an expert in medical recommender systems, and I expanded their question akin to the requirements of a prescription recommender system. - The interviewers were seeking specific answers and apparently could not follow the mapping between the components of a restaurant recommender system and a medical one. - One interviewer (probably the lead who defined the role) was unhappy with qualifications more than the specific role they wanted in his team.
