Pros

The people you meet! The reward of making the kids happy. Trip to DC Getting paid for something that I would do for free Respectful work environment

Cons

Don't expect to be fed well if you have a dietary requirement. The cook continually forgets to make gluten free/ dairy free alternatives, so you're stuck eating salad for three meals a day, which isn't the freshest and doesn't have the best selection. The wifi doesn't work, which sucks especially if you're international staff. But it is refreshing in this day and age to not be glued to your phone. Lastly, day off transport is promised, however, during pre-camp everyone has the same day off so there's no way to transport 70 people. It's understandable but should be made known in advance.

Pros

Being with the horses all day and working in the barn while teaching the campers horse things (ring lessons and stable management) is hard work, but fun and rewarding. The directors are supportive and want the staff to grow, and have as great a summer as the campers. There are opportunities for staff to ride throughout the summer, including trail rides and swimming with horses in the river which is a lot of fun!

Cons

It's an all girls camp so mild drama can occur, but is usually simple things that are handled quickly. The days can be really hot & humid, but if they're too hot they adjust schedules so everyone, and the horses, dont get overheated. The days can be long sometimes, but that's the life of working at summer camp
