Pros

Really nice rural location. 9-5 hours, no requirement to stay behind or anything like that. Once a year trips to conferences in Germany are fun, but not guaranteed.

Cons

Place is more hassle to work at than anywhere I have worked in my entire life. Wouldn't work here again even if it was the last company on earth. No person with half a brain should ever consider working for this company that employs unqualified managers who are abusive and disrespectful. Seriously high turnover of staff, only ever 10 or so people work here at any one time, yet 25-30 people have left in 10 years.

We were saddened to see this review about Agora Business Publications and are sorry that you didn't enjoy your time with us. However, we would like to highlight that a number of the statements in your review are factually incorrect. We recognise that we are a small team of 14 employees. We are currently undergoing a big recruitment drive as we look to expand our product management and digital marketing team to increase our digital presence. Our staff turnover rate is exceptionally low when compared to the UK average within the private sector over the past 2 years - in 2015 we had a turnover of 13% (UK average was 23.5%)* and in 2016 we had a staff turnover of 14% (UK average was 25.7%)*. Our staff have an average tenure at Agora of 5 years, which is much more than the UK average of 3.5 years **. Whilst our office hours are 9-5, we do encourage people to undertake career-enhancing activities and roles that may, at times, involve longer hours. We fully encourage staff development and career progression within the Agora Business Publications family. We love our employees to use their initiative and attend as many conference and training courses as they want! We also encourage staff to attend our German office with an open door policy - go as many times as you like and for as long as you need!!! Some of the other training highlights include: Copywriting courses with AWAI in Florida Web Development course in Nicaragua Various opportunities to attend seminars in France, Poland and Germany, to name just a few! Hopefully that clears a few things up and we wish you all the best in your new career! *statistics from XpertHR.co.uk **statistic from Forbes

Pros

Spectacular location on the Broughton estate at the edge of the Yorkshire dales, with resident peacocks, a spa, a café, walks around the grounds, etc. The colleagues I worked with were very friendly and willing to help. The online training workshops will help keep the business relevant.

Cons

Funding was suddenly pulled by the company's German owners and I was made redundant after 2 months of employment (while on probation, so virtually no redundancy pay), along with around 7 other staff members (old and new). On the publishing team there seemed to be a lot of uncertainty and wasted time e.g. I spent a week producing a mock-up publication that was later cancelled because it was no longer deemed viable. Another time, we committed to working on a range of products for which there was evidently no market demand. Advice to management sometimes fell on deaf ears and we would have to plough ahead with projects regardless. There was a lot of customer dissatisfaction around invoicing, which could create an embarrassing situation when cold calling. Unfortunately the company's poor reputation preceded it, and customers would let staff know.

Pros

The team at Agora is small and friendly. The office is in a lovely rural location on the edge of Skipton. Work wise, you are given the chance to input in various different projects and there is the opportunity to develop skills via training courses etc. As the company is growing and expanding their digital arm of the business, currently there's lots of opportunity to be involved in various projects and activities that may be beyond your "standard" job role. This is a great chance to show what you can do and also adds more strings to your bow in terms of understanding areas of marketing or management that you may not have had chance to explore before. Every day is different and the work is fast paced but it's not a boring 9-5. There's also the chance to meet up with counterparts in Germany and share experience and there's the prospect of working closer in the future with other international offices which is an exciting prospect. Overall the staff are friendly, the location is beautiful and the work is ever-changing. If you want a set routine and a plan of exactly what you will be doing, this might not be the place for you. If you like variety and the chance to try lots of different things then great!

Cons

The location means that being able to drive is a necessity as the public transport links are poor to the office location.
