Pros

NO PROS WHATSOEVER. Rosemare is a fraud in every way. Has been scamming everyone in the industry for over 10 years. Is an open secret in the fashion industry not to work for her. Has the outward appearance of wealth and charity but are horrible to people who work for her. For anyone who has worked with her, knows that she not have any skills and relies heavily on the unpaid people she employees as she copies everyone else designs. No one has worked there over 3-6 months. They issue bounced cheque after bounced cheque. You keep working hoping you will get paid, then when you have had enough and leave, they spread rumours that your work was bad. Same story for everyone. Has scammed many immigrant workers out of thousands of dollars while they held lavish parties for their socialite friends. They have scammed their own friends out of money. There are currently over 25 lawsuits agains them with the better business bureau. amounts ranging from $5000 - $90 000. Wayne Umetsu was investigate by the securities council of Canada for fraud.

Cons

THEY ARE CON ARTISTS AND FRAUDSTERS.

Pros

There is always work at ARU and they have improved greatly in recent years in regards to treatment of their employees. When accepting work follow these steps: 1. Know what you are accepting as a contract work. They don't have anymore working space and you will be working from home. These garments are very expensive ( in thousands of $) and very complicated, fabric is very expensive, therefore you will be responsible for high level of quality. So be mindful when negotiating your price. 2. payment. You don't need to take deposit but you should take partial payments for every step of the way before delivery. Delivery of patterns, muslin, 1st sample, 2nd sample (if any) and finally completed garment(s). If you don't, then this may happened: - You don't get paid( This never happened to me) -You may be requested to fix the work and you will not be paid for that. If it is your fault, than that is given! However, you may be asked to fix stuff that does not need fixing. That can happened when customer complains about unreasonable stuff. Rosemarie have a policy of pleasing her clients on the expense of workers. Not because she is mean but because she has no knowledge of technical stuff, like pattern making and sewing. If you delivered garments without being paid first, you will need to either fix it for no remuneration or they will deduct your payment. That is why you need to take money before delivering. Again, if it is your fault and is reasonable request, then fix it. 3. If she add to design additional work, like zippers, crinoline, lining...which will happen as a normal process of product development, negotiate additional pay before accepting it. They are very firm on agreed price and you cannot add cost at the end. 4. And last but not least, have everything in writing. Preferably e mail but text is good too. I recommend after accepting the work and before starting summarize everything and ask for confirmation. I hope this helps and I wish you and ARU great working relationship.

Pros

Nothing, she will not pay you

Cons

Rosemarie hired me to come in to work twice a week and I jumped on it without knowing what I was in for. Luckily, I only worked for 2 days before I found out about the CBC article about how she scams her friends and employees (Google Rosemarie Umetsu CBC and read the article) so I stopped going in and to prove this, she still has not paid me for the few days I worked. She gives excuses after excuses, today she is in Boston, tomorrow she is in Niagara, next week she is in Hamilton. Don't fall for her fake niceness and the fake positive reviews, dig dipper into the reviews and you'd see. She claims she pays on the 1st and 15th but really that's just a lie for her to enjoy free labour for 2 weeks. If you like to work for free then by all means go for it. I also met someone there, a foreigner who worked for her for almost a month and she only paid him for 4 days. Now he has to go back to his country with no money(even for food), time and energy wasted. What kind of person would do that to a fellow human? She targets people that don't speak English as a first language because for some reason she feels like they do not know their rights and she can easily exploit them. This kind of unethical behaviour should not be supported, how does she keep getting away with this?
