Pros

NO PROS OF THIS EMPLOYMENT

Cons

Where shall I begin. Since my employment with Hestia I have undertaken multiple job roles with non existent support No manager for over 4 months- senior management has not stepped in to support or relieve pressures Service users unfortunately get the knock on effect of poorly supported staff meaning that in turn support offered to them is limited Staff in turn deal with complaints from service users blaming the staff for their problems, again no support given from the top - Head office take service user's word and do not investigate Service users have been paid off by those at the top to stop them from sharing information with external agencies (Hestia loves to keep everything in house) Again, staff get blamed for problems within service's and focus energy on ensuring service users dont talk (perhaps because there are no non disclosures for service user so they can speak to who they like when they like) a lot of emphasis on fixing everyone else's problem but staff's When staff complain, they get bullied by senior management and even more pressure piled on Management on the ground changes like the wind with no apology and still an expectation for staff to just get on with it as if they are robots and won't be affected Asked to complete tasks in an unrealistic time frame (try 3 days to complete workbook which is sent to commissioners Previous management altered data so that commissioners would not know how awful a job Hestia do at running service HR are rude, unhelpful and seem to win all the prizes at staff conference...how peculiar? Just an echo to remind the rest of the staff doing all the hard work how unappreciated they are I haven't even mentioned IT problems! weeks without connection yet still expected to fulfil job expectation- complete support plans and assessments, submit this report that report, facilitate groups, ignore your anxiety and depression creeping in because of Hestia so long as you get the job done.

Pros

Most of the staff are highly dedicated individuals who genuinely wish to assist. However, due to burnout, there is a high turnover rate, resulting in frequent changes within your team. Additional training is available, although requesting non-mandatory training may sometimes be met with reluctance.

Cons

Human Resources are not particularly cooperative. This organisation appears to prioritise Key Performance Indicators aimed at satisfying funders, often at the expense of staff well-being and the needs of service users. The remuneration offered does not seem commensurate with the demands of the role, especially considering the rising cost of living in London. Many crisis centres employ only two full-time staff members, alongside untrained students and temporary workers, with staff expected to oversee their training whilst managing their workload. There is a notably high staff turnover, primarily due to burnout, as individuals need to prioritise their own mental health and therefore often leave without a contingency plan in place. Due to staffing shortages, staff are frequently expected to forego breaks or have their lunch at their desk, despite the contract stipulating a 30-minute unpaid break. Additionally, the employment contract tends to be quite vague. Benefits package is not worth it.
