I would not recommend working at Home Bargains to anyone, not unless you are completely desperate and have steel skin. - Shop Assistant Home Bargains Employee Review

Pros

You get paid every Friday - even though you're not paid the right amount sometimes. Pigeons got into the warehouse and brightened up my day as it was something fun to deal with. Nothing funnier than managers chasing round a pigeon!

Cons

Basically everything. I worked 48 hours in my first week as a 17 year old, but they only recorded me doing 38. This for starters is illegal. My contracted hours are 20, yet I wasn't paid overtime. Again, its illegal. Very negative atmosphere in the workplace, everybody there was grumpy and it drags you down. Morning shifts are supposed to be 4 hours long starting at 8am, but you never know what time you're going to finish in the morning. It could be until 12, could be until 2pm. You never know and are only allowed to leave by your managers' permission. Some staff were extremely unpleasant, bullying went on in the workplace between staff and wasn't acknowledged by managers even when addressed about it. There were 7 managers/lead sales people in total in my shop, plus over 20 staff. Yet somehow they were always understaffed. Managers are unjust, the mojority of them are seen chatting to each other on the shop floor, giving tasks they need to do to others below them. Favouritism between managers and staff members is a problem. Smokers were allowed to go for a 10-15 minute break, whilst remaining staff were unaware of this and continued to work in their absence.

Pros

Good staff Some good managers who genuinely care (but get overlooked) Young people are nice Work/life balance is ok since they don’t actually give you any hours Customers are chill they don’t really expect much

Cons

Lots of grooming that gets overlooked by the company, young girls are vulnerable as nothing is done about it and these men aren’t held accountable When you speak up about this, it gets treated as a rumour and/or lie Never enough staff Managers have favourites and make it blatantly obvious Managers will blank you the entire shift if they don’t like you Managers will be working so hard for years just to be overlooked Training is non existent Nepotism Completely outdated - tills are over 20 years old If you’re working evenings you’ll finish later than scheduled Don’t even bother to give you a chair if you’re on tills No balance - you’ll be put on tills for 8 hours straight for days in a row 10% discount:(
