In just 48 hours at the we.CONECT office, I got an amazing sense of the culture and spirit of the business and understand why it’s a great place to work and succeed! Rarely have I seen such an open environment, that combines both a relaxed atmosphere with drive, ambition and professionalism.
You get a sense of this the moment you enter the office. With large glass walls separating the offices, you realise the simple design & layout isn’t about just about having cool funky aesthetics expected in media nowadays. It’s much more considered than that, it compliments the “open” ethos behind their working environment.
It’s clear to see having “space to think”, being creative and innovation are inherent to this business… as a team member strolls past on their headset, focussed and in deep conversation. Speaking to many different individuals from across the business, I find myself engaged with people from all over world, with many different backgrounds and many different ideas! All of which - very importantly - are considered, even if not all are implemented.
I ask myself what’s so different about we.Conect, what’s made the business grow so rapidly and successfully, how do they maintain this spirit and enthusiasm in a challenging environment?
There are probably several reasons; having fun, enjoying your role, belief in creating superior product, a right way to do business. A place everyone’s contribution is valued and recognised, knowing real success isn’t immediate. An environment you can be easily self-motivated and driven. Yes, I’m sure it’s all of those and probably a lot more!
But knowing nothing’s perfect (not even we.CONECT), I default to agreeing with all the management books that say it’s the PEOPLE, that make the business. For me that’s very true at We.Conect. They hire differently and invest in their people, but for me the secret ingredient in the sauce is a company culture built around having those people with the right “Mindset”
Long may it continue, with the opportunity to replicate what I’ve seen in the new London office! I hope to deliver the same passion and spirit!!!
