The Governing Body is seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed Assistant Headteacher to join our senior leadership team. The post holder will play a key role in the strategic development of pastoral provision across the school and will lead in the areas of attendance and safeguarding particularly. We are therefore looking for an experienced pastoral leader with a comprehensive understanding of the legislative and policy landscape in the relevant fields. The successful candidate will have strong experience of working positively with both families and external agencies to support pupil engagement and progress. They will also have a genuine and enthusiastic commitment to ensuring that pupils of all backgrounds and abilities feel supported in school, are able engage positively with the curriculum and to reach their full potential. The role will also encompass general responsibilities within the senior leadership team such as line management of relevant support-staff and dealing with day-to-day pastoral issues – experience in these areas would therefore be beneficial. The appointed candidate will also have a partial teaching timetable and should role-model excellent teaching, behaviour-management and relationships day-to-day.

West Monmouth is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school serving Pontypool and the surrounding area. The school has expanded rapidly in recent years and currently has just under 1200 pupils on roll. West Monmouth has an excellent reputation within its community for both academic results and pastoral care and many pupils from outside our traditional catchment area have chosen to join us in recent years.
