Shift Pattern:

Monday to Friday, working on a rotating shift pattern:

  • Early Shift: 06:00 – 14:00
  • Late Shift: 13:30 – 21:30

This role operates on a structured rotation:

  • 1 week on early shifts
  • 1 week on late shifts

About the Company:

At Fornax Environmental Solutions, our mission is to develop state-of-the-art, fully compliant high temperature thermal treatment (HTTT) facilities utilising Best Available Technology and Techniques that will safely and effectively treat clinical and hazardous waste and generate renewable energy.

This will address a critical gap in the UK’s waste management sector. In a sector that has seen years of underinvestment, we are committed to delivering cleaner, greener, and safer solutions for the future.

We aim to build a network of small-scale facilities, designed to meet the highest R1-rated standards, in different parts of the UK. These will be designed at the optimum size to meet the need to process the clinical and industrial waste generated from within their region. This will cut down on transport emissions – known as carbon miles.

About this Role:

We are looking for a motivated and proactive Waste Acceptance Technician to join our team and support the effective handling and assessment of waste materials.

The Waste Acceptance Technician is responsible for ensuring that all materials received at site consistently meet established quality standards. This role involves inspecting, testing, preparing, and transferring materials. By maintaining strict quality control measures, the Waste Acceptance Technician supports the operations team and contributes to continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Keep up to date with safety requirements and other legislation.
  • Conduct rapid testing in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following health and safety regulations.
  • Receive materials to, and dispatch them from site, carry out internal movements (including using mechanical handling equipment such as pallet trucks and forklift trucks).
  • Conduct visual inspections of materials delivered to site.
  • Check the quality of materials delivered to site, take samples, and perform laboratory analysis using X-Ray Fluorescence, Flashpoint, pH, Bomb Calorimetry, Karl Fischer, Loss on drying, Appearance, Loss on Ignition (amongst others) to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and quality issues to ISO9001 standards.
  • Prepare materials for disposal.
  • Monitor production processes to identify areas where quality may be compromised.
  • Collaborate with operations team members to ensure adherence to quality procedures.
  • Suggest adjustments to processes to maintain consistent quality levels.
  • Ensure compliance with all documentation standards, including regulatory requirements.
  • Record and report defects or deviations from quality guidelines.
  • Implement corrective actions and verify their effectiveness.
  • Escalate unresolved quality issues to management when necessary.
  • Ensure products and processes meet industry and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary data and insights.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to material quality control.

Experience/Qualifications Required

  • Microsoft Windows and Office competency – Essential.
  • GCSE in Chemistry (or Dual Award Science) (Grade C/5 or higher) – Essential.
  • A level in Chemistry (Grade C or higher) – Highly desirable.
  • Chemistry or relevant Science subject:

o BSc (division 2:2 or higher) – Highly desirable.

o NVQ Level 3 – Desirable.

  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment:

o In education – Essential.

o In industry – Highly desirable.

  • Experience performing analytical testing - Highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of working to ISO9001 quality standards – Highly desirable.
  • Forklift Truck (Counterbalance and Reach) licence – Highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations – Highly desirable.

o Including IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent) – Desirable.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or warehousing setting – Desirable.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and process optimisation techniques – Desirable.
