What are pay rises like at Bizmates?

      Bizmates is slavery

      Trainer
      Former employee

      Pros

They have nice and friendly students. Though they fake it most times.

      Cons

It's slavery, everything is your fault as a trainer. Salary is very low 2.41 per hour and 25% deduction from salary. Approximately they pay less than $1 per hour.

Hi there. It's too bad it didn't work for you. If you are paying the 25% final tax, you must be based outside the Philippines. Please understand that the 25% final tax is Philippine law. And if you were based in the Philippines, the rate would be much lower. Anyway, it's rare that our trainers go as far as calling most of our students fake. It sounds like you had a difficult time hitting it off with your students. In this job, if you can't win your students over, then your feedback scores suffer, your hourly rate drops, and in some cases, your contract doesn't get renewed or gets terminated. So, if this is what happened to you, don't take it personally. It just means that this job isn't for you. Move on and find your passion. Hika Ito CEO, Bizmates Philippines

Hi, there. Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the targets are demanding, but they are achievable. We have many trainers who are able to bring their rates above the 200php/hour mark. However, it takes getting used to our system, a lot of focus and hard work, and a solid internet connection. Anyway, good luck to you. Hika Ito CEO, Bizmates Philippines

A Good Opportunity for English Trainers, but Limited Growth

      Sales
      Former employee
      Tokyo
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Flexible Work Schedule: The online teaching setup allows for a convenient work-life balance. Ideal for those who prefer remote work. Supportive Work Environment: The company provides training and materials, making it easier for trainers to deliver lessons. Cultural Exchange: Interacting with Japanese professionals offers a unique opportunity to understand Japan's business culture. Punctual Payment: Salaries are paid on time, and the payment process is straightforward.

      Cons

Limited Career Growth: There are few opportunities for promotion or salary increases, making it less ideal for long-term career advancement. Strict Lesson Guidelines: Some trainers may find the teaching methods too rigid, limiting creativity in lesson delivery. No Employee Benefits: As an independent contractor, there are no health benefits, paid leaves, or job security. Competitive Pay but Low Incentives: The compensation is fair for beginners but may not be competitive for experienced trainers.

Thank you for your feedback. I hear where you're coming. As trainers, you have the flexibility to work when you want and as much or as little as you want. However, you don't get the benefits and promotions that regular employees get because you're not an employee; you're an independent consultant. Having said that, for those trainers who excel, they may be asked to join Bizmates as an employee. So many of our Human Capital employees started off as trainers and became employees. Although these positions are rare, I hope we can offer more opportunities like this in the future. Hika Ito CEO, Bizmates Philippines

3 years after, not recommending it anymore

      Trainer

      Business outlook

      Pros

      1. Majority of the students I have are really nice and respectful. 2. Materials are regularly updated and are very convenient to use.

      Cons

      1. Low Pay: While management claims to offer competitive pay compared to other ESL companies in the Philippines, increasing or maintaining your salary is challenging. Unlike other companies where reaching milestones ensures a raise, Bizmates lacks this stability. Even experienced trainers earning the maximum pay could see their rate revert to the base level. 2. Biased Feedback: Trainers may face biased feedback from students, which can negatively impact their ratings and pay. Despite being aware of this issue, management has yet to address it effectively. 3. Customer-Centric Approach: The company's adherence to the Japanese principle that "the customer is always right" often means trainers' concerns are overlooked or ignored. 4. Frequent Hiring: The company regularly recruits new trainers, even when existing trainers struggle to secure regular bookings due to a limited number of students.

Hi there. Thank you for your feedback. I understand that the cost of living in the Philippines has increased so our rates of 140php-230php per hour may not seem as attractive as before. However, I'd like to think that you have been with Bizmates for 3 years and continue to be with us because we are still better than other schools that pay 70php or 80php per hour. So, if you have a bad term at Bizmates, yes your rate might drop from 200php to 180php or from 160php to 140php. But it won't go down to 70php or 80php like many of those other schools. And you can always bring your rate back up. As for biased feedback, what do you mean? It's feedback from the students, Yes, as the trainer, you need to get good feedback from your students (the customer). Just because you think you gave a good lesson, it does not warrant a good rating. Focus on the student. What are their needs? What can you do to satisfy them? This is what good trainers do. Yes, we take the customer-centric approach. By the way, this is not a Japanese approach. Every business in the world takes this approach. This doesn't mean that trainers are ignored. We've taken numerous recommendations from trainers to develop new materials, make changes to the KPI system, or to add features to MyStage. However, this doesn't mean all your requests will be met. As for frequent hiring, this is where you are dead wrong. On average, less than 10% of all slots are unbooked. That means over 90% of the slots that trainers open are booked. If you are not getting booked, it's because you are not getting your students to rebook with you. Most trainers are fully booked because they have managed to gain many regulars or are doing something that attracts new students. I understand that we don't have a perfect system and that inflation has increased much faster in the Philippines than in Japan. And the yen is much much weaker than it was years ago, making it more expensive to pay our trainers. However, we have managed to maintain our rates despite this. I don't expect you to see the whole picture, but rather than blaming the company and system, I think it would be far more productive to work on your skills by seeing what other trainers are doing. There are a lot of little tips that other trainers have that can greatly increase your customer feedback or your number of lessons. Best of luck. Hika Ito CEO, Bizmates Philippines

Hi there. Thank you for that last message. That means a lot. The greatest joy of starting Bizmates is when every now and then, I get a personal message from a trainer who tells me that because of Bizmates, they were able to buy their first house or send their child to a prestigious school or take care of their ill family member. I know that our system, materials, and processes aren't perfect, but we hope that we can continue to create a closer bond with the Philippines and Japan in the future. Thank you for all your support. Pros

Less stress from students since they are all professional. Flexible working schedule. Mostly fully booked at night (Japan Time)

      Cons

The evaluation system is truly unfair. One of the evaluation criteria is internet connectivity, yet their own teaching platform is not stable. As a result, many students give low scores, which significantly impacts our salary rates. Even my rate used to be 200 per hour and now it became 150 because of their non transparent system.

      Pros

Good and interesting materials to teach and discuss with students.

      Cons

Very low salary range compared to the time, efforts and materials needed to execute job. Trainers must take 500 lessons to get 10 peso salary increments and that also depends on their KPI. If you don't meet up with your KPI then no increment until after another 500 lessons. Too many sanctions for trainers on minor issues.

      Pros

Very flexy schedule which I appreciate a lot

      Cons

Salary increase difficult to move due to KPI factor especially when students just mindlessly pressing emergency button 140 is not bad though but unfair for teachers who have been in the industry for a long time =(. Besides you pay your own taxes and your benefits too, so I hope they would increase it.
