Pros
- The nature of the job means you get to meet lots of new people and make friends with most staff members. Some friends who you will keep for a long time.
- If you are a people person, you will generally find the work fun as you're dealing with a diverse range of people everday.
- You learn a lot of people skills by dealing with customers, who can be young, old, happy, moody, etc.
- You get discounts on food at other food group restaurants.
- Flexible hours.
- All managers I've worked with have been really handson and friendly.
Cons
- Minimum wage, but cash tips on busy days can make up for it.
- When understaffed, which can be quite often, it can get stressful when you have to deal with your own problems, but you're also picking up somebody else's slack.
- The actual bar training I received was very limited at the pub I worked at, and when I first started, it was a bit of baptism of fire.
- Sometimes coworkers can be unreliable or bad at their jobs but you can't do much about that.
