Overworked, Unequal Treatment, and Poor Work-Life Balance

      Pros

Some talented and hard-working colleagues. Occasional cultural events.

      Cons

Work-life balance is almost nonexistent in IT. I was regularly required to work late nights and weekends (sometimes until 3:00 a.m. or longer), yet still had to be in the office at 9:00 a.m. sharp. This rule was selectively enforced. I was the only one held to the 9 a.m. requirement, while multiple team members consistently came in after 10 a.m. without consequence. One even came in around 10:30 and left at 3 every day. When I asked to come in later after late-night work (as my boss claimed was allowed), I was told “we don’t have enough coverage” or other excuses. “Optics” was given as the reason for why I couldn’t adjust my schedule. Benefits are mediocre — 401(k) match is 4% tiered vs. 6% straight match at my past employers. Company culture is only “wonderful” if you fit their mold exactly; if not, you risk being terminated. High turnover is hidden behind stories of people who have been there for decades. They don’t talk about the many who have been let go.

      Pros

Pay is good, its a union house. Great benefits.

      Cons

Poor Management. Mostly there are no managers at night. F and B runs with no manager some days. Staff does whatever they want.
