What is the hiring process like at OpenText?

      Pros

I would only recommend Opentext to entry-level employees, to get some experience in a structured environment with decent benefits. The CEO is a decent guy.

      Cons

Opentext is mainly interested in acquisitions and numbers, the employees are its least important resource. Be prepared to be bombarded with fancy charts and financial numbers at every all-hand meeting. Each acquisition is usually followed with a round of layoffs, you are always on your toes. Employees laid off are not replaced thanks to an on-going hiring freeze, so new tasks are dropped on you overnight without any formal training, on top of your existing ones. They brag about being an international company with offices around the world but they do not have processes in place to handle a simple employee transfer from one country to another, I went through one of those transfers and the process was disorganized and amateurish, despite given a months’ long notice that I was moving to a different country, the whole process failed at every step with HR being totally clueless, I only found out what would be my new salary and benefits hours before I started working in the new country. Leaving them was just as bad, with them taking a month to send me an empty box so that I can return my laptop, and that was after I reminded them about it.

They prefer Quantity Over Quality at OpenText

      Software qa intern
      Former intern

      Business outlook

      Pros

Opportunity to Learn: Despite the challenges, working at OpenText provides an opportunity to learn and gain experience in a product-based company. Exposure to Real-World Projects: Interns are given tasks similar to full-time employees, providing exposure to real-world projects and tasks. Regrettably, my experience with OpenText was not positive. It seemed to me that they prioritized volume over value. Despite being a product-based company, they recruit students in large numbers similar to service-based companies, but often do not offer full-time positions afterwards. It appears that their hiring process is not focused on securing top talent. Instead, their primary concern seems to be on the marketing side, often at the expense of work-life balance. They bring in a significant number of interns (180-250) from colleges and expect them to work for a minimal stipend of 15000, often doing the same tasks as full-time employees. They also seem to rely heavily on contract workers. It’s a challenging environment for those starting their careers. Their approach can seem haphazard at times, to the point where ‘RandomText’ might be a more fitting name.

      Cons

Quantity Over Quality: The company seems to prioritize the number of recruits over the quality of their skills and potential. Limited Conversion to Full-Time: Many interns do not get converted to full-time positions. Work-Life Balance: The focus on marketing and high-volume recruitment can negatively impact work-life balance. Low Intern Compensation: Interns are paid a minimal stipend despite doing full-time work. Reliance on Contract Workers: The company appears to rely heavily on contract workers, which may impact team stability and cohesion. Challenging for Career Starters: The environment can be challenging for those starting their careers, with a seemingly haphazard approach to tasks and projects.

Not the "Product Company" You Expect – A Recruiter's Reality Check

Hybrid Work Model Free Cab Facility Free Meals

      Cons

Misleading Company Identity: Despite being a "product company," the Talent Acquisition team operates like a consultancy with a strong focus on manual processes and weekly selection targets, even with an ATS in place. Lack of Career Progression & Management Support: Management shows little interest in employee career progression. Leaders appear more concerned with job security than with effective leadership or developing their teams. Discriminatory Environment: Non-local language speakers may face discrimination, creating an uncomfortable and unsupportive work environment where concerns are ignored. Limited Autonomy & Lack of Respect: Employees are dismissed when offering advice or solutions, with discussions then happening "between leads." There's a lack of trust, as evidenced by the need to use separate laptops for job board access to track usage. Poor Management Quality & Favoritism: Some managers lack basic communication skills and professionalism. There's a culture of forcing out employees who are not "manager's pets." TA Team Dissatisfaction: Many TA advisors feel "trapped" due to poor timing of theirs to join this team. Cliquish Culture: There's a tendency for employees to form groups based on native language. Financial Discrepancy: The company prioritises hiring new external talent over converting existing contractors.

      Pros

      - Some very talented people who have been promoted properly and are being recognized for their skills - Individual teams are very well-run and you'll learn a lot - Seems to be one of the few companies actively hiring entry level talent

      Cons

      - Communication across teams is dreadful and often kills momentum on projects that can make a difference - IT team operates in a black box with little to no visibility - releases are not consistent and are not communicated - Duplicate efforts between teams are apparent as info is either duplicated or not present depending on who does what - Multiple shake-ups have made it difficult to trust if leadership is serious about building

      Cons

Unprofessional team, learned it the hard way. Interviwed in October 2024, gave me a verbal job offer with start date, wants me to start early, quit my current job but they gave no written offer and was forced to find a new one, now they are asking if Im still available 4 months later. This level of unprofessionalism is spectacular. Wouldn't recommend this company if their HR and recruitment process are alredy this messed up

      Pros

My colleagues were nice to work with

      Cons

Where do I start? This company is an absolute joke. The management is shocking, the process is also terrible and if you truly care about your mental health you will not join. Even the commission structure is set out to not award people who work well (if the company do not hit their number you automatically lose 30% of your comms) My manager bullied me every day and eventually I had to leave, when I brought this up to people in other departments it turned out my manager had does this to others in the past but was protected by the higher ups. Seriously, don’t waste your energy on this horrendous company.
