How are senior leaders perceived at POOLCORP?

      POOLCORP reviews

Decent company, poor culture in some areas

      Business development representative
      Current employee
      Fort Worth, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

I feel like this corporation is run fairly well and provides employees the tools they need to be successful. The job is pretty easy and I've been able to work from home/coffee shops on a regular basis. I would say that you can have decent quality of life here, depending on your local management.

      Cons

There are no signed bonus plans. I was top 5% in the company and got a measly $2k bonus. They dangle bonuses in front of you but there isn't a BDR in this company who actually knows what the bonus plan is. Furthermore, the BDR role doesn't do anything that a BDR should. We are hardly given the opportunity to chase new business or develop pipelines. The BDR role here is purely an Account Manager, except they call it a BDR so they can provide BDR-level pay. I've seen regions where the culture is fantastic and supportive, I've seen areas where people are miserable because of the leadership. Whether you'll enjoy this job or not is pretty much determined by where you're hired.

      Pros

I genuinely love working here. The people are kind, authentic, and supportive at every level (including upper management). The environment is very team oriented, and leadership strikes a great balance between being available for support while still giving you the autonomy to learn and grow. There are strong long-term career growth opportunities, which makes this a great place to build a career.

      Cons

      Compensation could be more competitive.

Ehhh, old school everything, bad pay

      Business development representative (bdr)
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

You'll get to work with great customers and vendors (all of which make more than you) Maybe maybe maybe a desperation job or a career pivot, if you can afford it.

      Cons

      - As I mentioned, very low base pay. We were told "get a roommate" from the head of HR during an onboarding session addressing living in a high-COLA. - They also will cap your bonus, which is tied to your low pay. I carried a 18mil book of business, was top 1% in the company and made less than 60k that year. - Management is streaky. Had some great local branch managers, but leadership had little to no idea what value-based, relational, or challenger model sales practices meant and love to meddle. - No modern sales tools, they use a nerfed M365 CRM and you can't pull any helpful sales activity on your book/clients/targets. - The old C-Suite will tell you in your first month "this is a nickel and dime industry." Just remember it applies to you. -I left and immediately tripled my salary.

      Great people, terrible company

      Marketing program manager
      Former employee
      Covington, LA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The coworkers here are amazing! Maybe it's because we're all subjected to the same pressure from upper management, but everyone is very kind and helpful. Extensive training is available, and there are plenty of good resources that become available to you once you're hired.

      Cons

Upper management has no idea what they're doing, and none of them pay close enough attention to the things that are actually going on in the company/industry to effectively make change or make the environment better for the employees. They are chronically understaffed due to unfavorable conditions and frequent "hiring freezes" due to budget. Workload is unreasonable, and pay definitely does not make up for the long hours.

Good people, broken culture. PoolCorp needs a hard reset from the top down.

      Sales center manager
      Former employee
      Dallas-Fort Worth
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The people at the branch level are the only real bright spot. Most of them work hard, care about the customers, and show up every day despite being stretched thin. You’ll learn a ton because you’re forced to. You’ll get hands-on experience with sales, operations, customer service, inventory, and leadership — mainly because there aren’t enough people to do the work. Industry reputation. The PoolCorp name still carries weight, even if the internal experience doesn’t match the outside perception.

      Cons

The morale is extremely low, and it’s not a mystery why. Employees feel overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated. Burnout is constant, and the “do more with less” mentality is baked into the culture. Our leadership is inconsistent and often out of touch. Decisions come down from people who haven’t worked a branch in years, and it shows. Communication is unclear, reactive, or nonexistent. The workload far outweighs compensation. You’re expected to run at 110% every day, cover multiple roles, and hit aggressive targets without the resources to do it. Raises rarely reflect the actual responsibilities you carry. The support is extremely minimal. When branches struggle, solutions aren’t proactive — you’re mostly on your own. Problems don’t get fixed; they get passed around. There’s a constant turnover and huge burnout. Good employees leave because they don’t feel valued, and new employees get overwhelmed quickly. It’s a cycle that never ends. The heavy workload with limited support. It often feels like you’re covering multiple roles without additional compensation or time. There are massive communication gaps. Expectations from above can be unclear, and branches sometimes feel like they’re left to figure things out on their own. • Pay doesn’t always match responsibility. There’s potential to earn good money, but raises and compensation don’t always keep pace with workload or market value.

      Pros

Fully remote, mostly allows for a forgiving and flexible schedule if or as needed. Direct managers are fantastic to work for and with as is

      Cons

The leadership has zero regard for their employee's humanity. Recently we were all told that "we should be burnt out". Like we are just disposal machines for their wealth generation. Which, yes that is exactly what any employee is but to say it out loud ... wow, just wow.
