What is a typical working day like at Safeway?

Decent pay for a menial job. Relaxed pace when merchandise deliveries are reasonable (e.g. <= 5 pallets of items).

Lack of support and colleague attendance dictates the pace of the shift.

Left with no supervision's for most the time. Cool coworkers

No communication between the deli manger and the closing shift because manager works: 4am-12:30, but has a meeting with store managers the last 40 minutes of the day. The 2 closers come in at 12 and 1pm. Often to a passive aggressively written note about specific stuff that need to be done, or something they did wrong the night before. Manager DOES NOT work anytime besides 4am-12:30, and is not good at confrontation/management..

I had a great experience working at Safeway. The management team was supportive, and my coworkers made every shift enjoyable. The work's easy where it doesn't really feel like you have to work that hard. Barely any physical labor compared to other roles in the store.

Your hours can be based on how well the store is doing, Your manager can be the difference between night and day, depending on their personality.

The store management had done what they could when the night crew needed help. Each department was looking out for each other as the morning would start and there was a good amount of teamwork.

There are not many new people that rotate into the night crew so they have some of the same people that have been there for 10 years, 20 years, and 45 years. The problem there is that they are aware that if they do not want to do something that is needed then they won't have to and there is no getting fired or suspended since the we cant afford to lose anyone. As manager I was seen as the enemy and if I needed something done then I had to do it myself most of the time. They always talked about wanting the store to be ready and stuff but they only did the bare minimum and if there was a change then that was for me to handle. Toxic work environment.

Shift work. Safeway is open 7am-11pm everyday. When they say they have flexible scheduling, it means that you will be scheduled with a high degree of variability within your range of flexibility. Sunday availability is mandatory.
