What is the salary like at UCSF Health?

      UCSF Health reviews

      Great pay but poorly managed

      Mri technologist
      Current employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Great pay, benefits, a lot of room to learn and grow. Option for 12 and 10 hour shifts.

      Cons

Poorly managed, lack of communication, equipment always broken, understaffed, they use students as employees, poor training. Disregards union contract.

      Terrible leadership

      Epic analyst
      Former employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Great pay and benefits including 40+ days off a year between PTO and holidays

      Cons

Terrible incompetent leadership who eat their way to the top and never follow the 'pride' values of the organization. Prepare to be completely disrespected by every leader

      Turning against remote work

      Anonymous employee
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Competitive salaries, pension plan, smart and motivated co-workers

      Cons

UCSF has recently turned pretty blatently anti-remote-work, at least in IT and the Epic teams, after allowing people to move out of state in the pandemic. As a result, experienced staff are leaving. Not sure how much is coming from the CEO or from UCOP, but the morale is low

      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good pay compared to other residencies

      Cons

      Expensive area to live in

      Poor Leadership

      Clinical nurse ii
      Current employee
      San Francisco, CA

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      Good pay and good benefits

      Cons

UCSF has talented staff, but poor leadership overshadows the positives. New rules for 2026 clearly show that administration doesn’t care about employees’ well-being or work-life balance. Communication is inconsistent, and staff concerns are ignored. Morale has suffered because leadership prioritizes policy over people.

It's no longer the UCSF we knew

      Health it
      Former employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Dedicated, smart colleagues. Good pay, outstanding benefits. Nearly everyone believes in the mission of providing outstanding care for some of the most difficult cases.

      Cons

The health system now seems more focused on growth and finances than on people and the UCSF mission. New leadership styles include screaming at people in meetings. PRIDE values? No longer. And if you're not a clinician, UCSF doesn't seem to believe in training people to do their jobs... you're just expected to figure it out. Managers in particular get no training and no support.
