What is overtime like at Ubisoft?

      Ubisoft reviews

      the future is dark

      Pros

+ legitimately lovely coworkers + prestige realistic titles that always push new tech + it's better than being unemployed + good work life balance, no overtime (because they're legally required to pay for overtime and they'll do everything they can to avoid paying you more, lol)

      Cons

      - 5 days on-site is coming - low pay, low benefits, no raises, no bonuses - they offered stock benefits of a maximum of like $120. Why even bother. That will be worth $20 in a year anyways - they say the new structure is meant to give control and autonomy to the "creative houses" on one hand, while still dictating everything on the other hand - insane nepotism - ceo disconnected from reality - they try to avoid bad headlines by doing sporadic small layoffs and randomly firing people throughout the year. To be clear, they're not done with layoffs yet no matter what they tell us. And they lie about work shortages, there's so many projects that need more people but just aren't allowed to onboard any more people (who already work at the company) to make the project's budget look better on paper - it's hard to trust management when they allow pre-alpha projects to experiment and innovate but never greenlight any of it, only want to ship more of the same old. Too many projects just failing milestones and going nowhere. - pipelines are stuck in the past and super inefficient with today's complexity and fidelity standards, every project has the same feedback on this stuff but clearly nothing will ever change - longtime ubisoft people only know how to make giant bloated fragmented open world ubisoft games, can't even comprehend anything else - weird in house engines, weirdest part is that there's still more than one - different cities being treated as entirely separate companies is out dated, everyone working on a project should be treated as one unified team but you're treated like external partners if you're not the lead studio - MS Teams

Good workforce let down by incompetent management.

      Pros

Great colleagues, diverse and talented workforce, nice offices. You will gain new skills and enjoy your working environment.

      Cons

Pay is decent but won't keep up with inflation, entrenched culture of working unpaid overtime, upper management is at best out-of-touch. Be prepared to work on trend-chasing projects that will be irrelevant long before they can be completed, with colleagues that only shared 1-2 hours of timezone with you.

      Pros

      - Comp time for OT - People are great, work culture is respectful - Inter-project mobility. I never hear of people being let go at the end of a project

      Cons

      - Bonuses are basically non-existent so far during my time here. Company wasn't doing well last year. - The pay raise last year was extremely low, at 1.7% for me, and it is known that there were 0% increases for certain job levels. - In my project, it felt understaffed but overdemanding. All of us had to do more than was healthy for work-life balance, and even though there was comp time for OT, not being able to spend all of it was an actual concern as the project could not afford some people to leave. It should be noted that I have never heard of leave being unapproved for this reason however, but there is stress coming from expectations and sense of responsibility to consider.

      Pros

      - People working here are great. - Brand recognition. - Legacy projects will never layoff. - Low expectations of employees (if you're into that) - Lots of PTO. - Average benefits packages.

      Cons

      - The worst pay of AAA studios across disciplines. - 5 days in the office projected for the near future. - Near impossible to move internally. - Epitome of cubicle studios. - If you invested in their stock in 2021 then you're down 95% as of this review. - Corporate vague-talk whenever anything goes bad instead of honest accountability. - Organizational leadership lost complete trust of the production teams. - Prefers killing Halifax studio instead of letting it live under a union. - Suspends employees without pay for speaking up about breaches of trust (which ironically reinforces the desire for unions). - Is investing in AI in certain areas but is likely to expand over time.
