I found this position by calling 7-Elevens in the city, asking if they were hiring. I finally was redirected to the store that was hiring. I was told to come in immediately for my interview.
When I arrived, the manager was happy to greet me there. We stopped and talked for about five minutes. He asked if I had any experience in retail, I explained that I did not.
I filled out a paper application, there was nothing about a background check or a drug test and neither were required. The application had a very small, four question section on basic math. I returned the application, and was told that I would be called soon.
Two days later, I was asked to come back to the store for another interview. He walked around the store with me, explaining that I would be sweeping, restocking coolers, mopping the floor, working the register and selling food. I was informed that there are goals to upsell on food, and that I would be accountable for them when I am working.
We returned to his office, and he told me that he thought I was a good fit. He told me that there was a 90 day probationary period, where I work for 90 days and then he decides if he wants to continue my employment. I was to begin training the next day, finish in two, then begin working in three days.
I told him that I was fine with that and he discussed the details with me, including training and uniforms.
The interview was very easy over all. It took under 20 minutes, and was literally just showing up and listening to the manager talk. I was not asked any questions except if I had retail experience and the math questions on the application.
