As we noted at the start of our hiring process, we invest time into selecting coworkers that are talented and a good fit with our work culture. As you describe, this includes a phone screener, a skills test, a panel interview that includes the future manager, and a senior management interview. We have found this process helpful for getting to know our candidates. It is very useful for identifying inconsistent answers and red flags. Ultimately, this process helps us in selecting the best candidate for the position.
In this specific case, we intended to select another candidate. However, after additional, serious consideration by our office, we made the tough decision to open up recruitment again.
