      Marketing Assistant Interview

      27 Jul 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at AGM Chelmsford

      Interview

Got invited in for an interview. Company seemed really professional over email, very very keen for me to go in. However, when I arrived it became clear that this was NOT a marketing role, but instead they wanted pushy sales people which definitely wasn't me. Was a pretty easy chat with a few higher up people where they basically just described the company and constantly emphasised how they have big plans to go global- however when you're there it really doesn't come across as a company that has any chance of becoming big worldwide. The people were ok, occasionally a bit rude and kept asking if I 'had what it takes to thrive' when realistically this is a business with only a few local clients. Essentially was just a bunch of sales people trying to make themselves sound really big time. Was invited in for a second day assessment but didn't bother going as the role wasn't what was advertised at all.

      Interview

Had an email and telephone conversation with the receptionist on the Friday. Came in and went on a wild goose chase for people to contribute to a charity named Independent Age, which started at 11:00 and finished at 19:00, for which none of the the local people have heard of before. The "Manager" who was showing myself, and a new employee around to these door-to-door fake? charity contributions was rude, acted like an entitled child, and thought he was the king of reading people and the psychology behind why they said no to their begging for contributions. One "psychological" sales technique they love is to hand people a battered, dirty laminated leaflet with £ signs all over it, but! they can only hold it for literally 3 seconds before they snatch it back off them again, never giving them a chance to actually read it, and take in the information on the leaflet. Thus having to then trust everything that's coming out of this sales gurus mouth. Was told at the start of the day to feel free to ask questions throughout the day/evening, asked what I felt was an innocent question about salary (the only time I ever mentioned it btw), was greeted by an angry response, apparently asking about salary on the second interview was out of order, and he was "not at liberty" to answer a simple, "so what is the average hourly wage?" question... found out the next day after doing some digging that its commission based off of £10 a month donations by people who are targeted by this company, who live in a council estate area. There were many incidents throughout the day which would take all day to discuss, including a woman coming out and screaming at the manager for persist knocking, and his response was to have a nervous giggle, and as she walked away say rude things about her like a school child. One last nail in the coffin was the drive home, as they discuss the day and what they have achieved, rude, foul language was used to describe the locals for whom they pin pointed beforehand to hit with their drivel. Couldn't stand the Manager, for whom ended the night with rude remakes about how "I currently have no career prospects, and live at home with my parents", felt like that was rather uncalled for when I said I wasn't interested in the role they were falsely offering... Go ahead with the interview if invited! Its certainly a life experience!

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at AGM Chelmsford

      Interview

The interview lasted only 5 min and I would hardly call it an interview. I was asked some basic questions and the Nathan told me something about their business in the USA, which by the sound of it involves just going to Walmart and setting up stands to sell some stuff. The office hardly reflects what has been claimed on their website and I would recommend not working for them as they seem to lie about everything.
