      Account Manager Interview

      27 Sept 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Raleigh, NC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Acquire (Raleigh, NC) in Sept 2018

      Interview

I applied for the job on LinkedIn thinking it was a customer service management training job. I did 2 interviews with the company, one with a manager and another with an account executive or some position below the first guy. It started with me getting a phone call about coming in for an interview. They said business professional which seemed a little strange to me because I had worked in customer service jobs before and very rarely did we have to dress that nice. My assumption was that this company dealt with high profile clients doing marketing campaigns like plans books, PR events, and social media. I was partially right. I got to the location which is in a beautiful commercial business location. The lobby was set up very nicely and a receptionist was there to take peoples information. Then I was taken into the rest of the office and everything seemed unfinished. There were walls that had not been put up and the decor was non-existent. This may have changed since then. There were two people in the room I was interviewing with, the hiring manager and someone who was a manager in training (I'm guessing, the person did not speak). He asked me the typical interview questions. So what brings you here, why do you think you would be a good fit, etc? I talked to him about how I want to get into social media marketing to grow my own business. He said that's not what they do here. I was a little surprised but not completely dismayed. He said that the work was to sell products for big name fortune 500 companies. He then explained that everyone starts at an entry-level position and they earn around 30 to 35k a year. You would get a base weekly salary plus commissions. Sounds pretty good. We finished it there and I came in later that week for a second round interview. That second round interview took place in the cafe in the lobby of the building with another 2 people (same dynamic as last time, one person interviewing me while the other just kinda sat there). We were told to go get coffee and chat some more about the position. We got down there and there were several other of these groups doing the same thing. I was neither offered a coffee nor did we actually wait in line for coffee, straight to the interview. He asked me the same questions as the first interview. He then furthered explained the structure of how the company works. We would be selling direct tv packages to consumers in big box stores. Not at all what I thought I was signing up for. I felt as if I had been lied to about what the position truly was but was not turned off from it. That interview ended and I got to talk to the Hiring manager once again. I asked him if there were any sale goals required to hit? He told me there were not. He told me that someone would call or email me soon about a 3rd round interview. I have yet to receive anything.

Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your constructive feedback and bringing this matter to our attention. We are pleased to hear that you had a pleasant experience during your interview here at Acquire but regret to hear your experience that followed was the opposite of the time you spent in-office. This has been brought to our attention once before in the past and we still want to make no excuses for this happening! Each element of our hiring process, including the follow-up, is greatly important to us so we are doing our own investigating to find where the disconnect was on our end once you finished your interview. We do not take instances such as this one lightly and we sincerely apologize for our lack of communication! Again, we appreciate you informing us of the issue so we can keep this from becoming a frequent occurrence. Kind Regards, Acquire Human Resources Dept.

      Interview

Interviewer was personable but said I was going to be starting as a Sales Rep- as I applied for the Account Manager Position, that was a red flag to me. This is a multi-level marketing gig that involves selling cell phones at kiosks in a Costco despite what the job posting says.

      Interview

I thoroughly enjoyed every conversation that I had with both of the directors. Not only were they both extremely kind and easy to communicate with, they both possessed traits of drive and an eagerness to be successful in their careers. This is extremely motivating and I feel both could provide motivation towards my personal success within the company.
