In early 2020, I was in the process of interviewing for a Senior Product Manager position at Affirm. The recruiter I interacted with was quite amiable back then, and we conducted a preliminary screening. However, as the pandemic unfolded, I was informed that the company had decided to temporarily halt hiring for that particular role. While this was disappointing news, I fully understood the circumstances, as such measures were becoming widespread across the board.
Affirm's team expressed their interest in staying in touch and indicated that they believed I would be a strong fit for the role (an assessment I shared). Eventually, I secured another job. But I truly thought the recruiter meant what she said about staying in touch!
Fast forward to the present, I find myself seeking new opportunities, and that same recruiter remains at Affirm. I came across an open Senior Product Manager position that piqued my interest, prompting me to submit an application and attempt to reconnect with the recruiter. However, my initial emails to her went unanswered or ignored leaving me feeling frustrated and disappointed. After some persistence, I did receive a response, though regrettably, it was succinct and quickly conveyed that I was not considered a suitable fit for the role. It was upsetting that, at the very least, they did not opt to restart the process with an initial screening to gauge my current qualifications and suitability for the position. If anything I am now more qualified than I was 3.5 years ago!
The reason for my decision to submit this review stems from my frustration with Affirm's recruiter. It appears that they offered assurances like "we'll stay in touch" without any intention of following through on those commitments.
